January 2025 TBR

Happy New Year, everyone! I hope this year is better for everyone, myself included! I did ok with my December TBR and finished two books while DNF another. In January I have a lot going on health-wise, so if I get to everything on my January 2025 TBR, then I will be very impressed and surprised with myself. As I mentioned in my December wrap-up, I get my wisdom teeth out tomorrow. And later in the month I have other things going on. So, while my January 2025 TBR consists mostly of SFINCS Round 2 novellas, I really hope to get to a few other books, too. However, if I can’t, then I’ll have to give myself some grace.

Priority Reads

A Feather So Black by Lyra Selene

A FEATHER SO BLACK by Lyra Selene: Now that I’m back from Christmas travel I can finally get around to this. This is my #1 priority read. I actually started this a few days ago and so far I like it. “Set in a world of perilous magic and moonlit forests, this seductive romantic fantasy debut tells the story of a defiant changeling, her cursed sister, and the dangerous fae lord she must defeat to save her family.

Next I need to focus on my SFINCS Round 2 allocations. Luckily only at least two people from my team need to reach each novella. This means I don’t have to read all five if I physically can’t, but I’d like to try because they all look good!

MARKED by R.M. Krogman: “Davon and his family live a simple life in the beautiful valleys of the Sikrat Mountains, as long as they don’t draw the attention of roaming ghastwolves or the keen Earth Dragons on the ridges above. Davy’s purpose is clear: to protect the flock and to help his mother and father…”

GOTHEL AND THE MAIDEN PRINCE by W.R. Gingell: “Deep in the forest, far from the light, a sorceress with magic of the blackest kind keeps prisoner the princess she stole away years ago. From time to time, a prince will come to challenge her, but by and large, life is peaceful for Gothel. And that’s just the way she likes it…”

EAGLES FALL by L.R. Schulz: “…With civil war looming, Ward finds himself caught between warring factions. Unwilling to choose between love and duty, will Ward be able to stop things before they go too far? Or will his world come crashing down in a clash of tooth and talon?…”

FROM THE DEPTHS by B.S.H. Garcia: “…Konar dreams of scholarly pursuits, and Karliah sees the world as something ripe for the taking. When the emperor dangles an irresistible offer—a job to end their dangerous pursuits forever—the Brunes seize the chance. But there’s a catch: the item in question is little more than a myth, deemed impossible to find…”

TO CATCH A WITCH by E.L. Montague: “Caught in a scandal with Lord Arle that draws the attention of King Harald’s Inquisition, Shenagh is forced to flee her home into the Dark Wood. The young hedge witch, pursued by Master Macon den Lough and his henchman, Cobb, is tested by the forest’s rugged terrain, dangerous predators, and legendary monsters.”

Hopeful Reads

Throne of Glass by Sarah J. MaasGive Me Butterflies by Jillian Meadows

THRONE OF GLASS by Sarah J. Maas: Yep, I haven’t read this series yet! My friend has been lovingly bugging me to read it, so this is the year! I want to start the series this month, but between the SFINCS and health stuff, I honestly might not get to it until February.

GIVE ME BUTTERFLIES by Jillian Meadows: This is a January 2025 ARC. We’ll see if I get to it. If not, that’s ok. Regardless, this is a STEMinist contemporary romance and I love that kind of thing. I find that the contemporary romances to which I gravitate are usually STEMinist. “A swoony, steamy, STEM romance in which two curators at a science museum–a handsome but grumpy astronomer and an anxious but sunshine-y entomologist–realize they are the perfect match. Equal parts nerdy banter and fiery tension, it’s perfect for fans of Ali Hazelwood and Tessa Bailey.

    1. I LOOOOOVE the ACOTAR series. I really hope you enjoy them! Fair warning the writing style might be a bit jarring at first. I remember my first time reading it and was like, um, where are the complete sentences? But I got hooked. SJM does such a great job building storylines and characters.

  1. Happy New Year. I hope that 2025 treats you wonderfully and that many new favourites come your way. I hope the wisdom teeth removal goes well too and good luck with your TBR. It looks like you’ve got an interesting mixture of books and novellas to check out. I loved TOG and will watch out for your thoughts on it. Hopefully it’ll go well and you’ll have lots to discuss with your friend.
