WWW Wednesday: August 19, 2026

Well, sorry to say I don’t have a book review for the blog this week. I finished a couple books, but don’t particularly feel like devoting time to writing a long-form review. So if you care to read some quick thoughts of mine on them, check out my bookstagram. I’m also in a weird mood right now, so forgive me for not blog hopping at the moment. I’ll get back to it! Now, onto WWW Wednesday.

WWW Wednesday was revived and hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words. The idea is to answer the three questions below and leave a link to your post in the comments for others to look at. No blog? No problem! Just leave a comment with your responses.

Currently Reading

Tower of Dawn by Sarah J. MaasThe Giver by Lois Lowry

TOWER OF DAWN by Sarah J. Maas: I’m reading this chonk right now. Just this book and KINGDOM OF ASH before I’m finally done with the TOG series. (No spoilers, please!) I want to be done with this series, but at the same time I don’t want to be. SJM always does a great job pacing the emotional impact and not rushing character development.

THE GIVER by Lois Lowry: This is a reread (audiobook) for me, though the only time I ever read it was in school well over 20 years ago, probably closer to 25 years ago. I’m definitely enjoying reading this through an adult lens now. I’m sure when I was 12 or whatever I had no idea why everyone in society takes a pill–to control hormonal impulses. Also, my face when we find out as a reader that after 3 years of birthing a child those women go off and do hard labor!! Way to treat the women who were selected to birth life. That just hits differently as an adult and seeing how society treats women and mothers.

A Marvellous Light by Freya MarskeSea of Tranquility by Emily St. John Mandel

A MARVELLOUS LIGHT by Freya Marske: This was a great historical fantasy mystery with romance. I liked the magic system and the writing, though I felt it kind of slowed down in the middle before speeding up with solving the mystery at the end. That quibble aside, I’d happily read more by Marske.

SEA OF TRANQUILITY by Emily St. John Mandel: This was a pretty good short scifi novel with time travel. It didn’t amaze me, but I had a pretty good time with it and it was a quick read. A few folks told me it’s connected to another of Mandel’s novels, which I haven’t read. So there’s a chance SEA OF TRANQUILITY didn’t hit super hard with me because I might not have the full background here.

We Burned So Bright by T.J. Klune

I’m going to have to shuffle some things around because I forgot to suspend my hold for WE BURNED SO BRIGHT by T.J. Klune. So that’s next on my reading list! Honestly, I’m looking forward to it because I need a good cathartic cry, not gonna lie! I might even switch on and off with TOWER OF DAWN, we’ll see.
