December 2024 TBR

It’s the home stretch of 2024, everyone! And with it brings a lot of ARCs that I have yet to read. Oops! I did pretty well with my November 2024 TBR, so I hope I can repeat that with my December 2024 TBR. While I have a couple of priority reads, I think for this month I want to pick more from my pile of physical books. I’m a little behind on ARCs, but I also just want to take it a little easy during the holiday season.

Priority Reads

The Land of the Living and the Dead by Shauna LawlessA Feather So Black by Lyra SeleneHim by Geoff Ryman

THE LAND OF THE LIVING AND THE DEAD by Shauna Lawless: This is the the third book in the Gael Song series. Hopefully I’ve already started it by the time this post goes live. It’s already out in the world, so I’m behind on my ARC read of this. “With war on the horizon in medieval Ireland, everything is at stake for mortal and magical folk alike.

A FEATHER SO BLACK by Lyra Selene: The second book comes out in January. Since I expect Fairyloot might have a special edition for it, I want to read the first book to help me decide whether I want to spend a little extra for the sequel. “Set in a world of perilous magic and moonlit forests, this seductive romantic fantasy debut tells the story of a defiant changeling, her cursed sister, and the dangerous fae lord she must defeat to save her family.

HIM by Geoff Ryman: I really need to read and review this ARC. It came out last December. “An extraordinary science-fiction novel about identity, divinity and alternate reality – the story of the son of God.” Given it’s an alternate reality of the story of the son of God and we’re approaching Christmas, I thought the subject somewhat topical.

Hopeful Reads

A Midwinter's Tale by Lili HaywardThat Librarian by Amanda Jones

I want to keep the hopeful reads pretty casual this month, more akin to “mood reads.” But here are a couple I pulled off my shelf in the hopes I decide to read them in December.

A MIDWINTER’S TAIL by Lili Hayward: Did the cat on the cover catch my eye? Absolutely, yes. It’s not exactly the type of fiction I reach for, but it’s the holidays, so why not? “It’s nearly Christmas and committed Londoner, Mina Kestle, is close to signing a deal that will make her career and give her everything she’s ever wanted. And then she receives a mysterious letter in the post along with an ancient key, sent by her long-estranged godfather…”

THAT LIBRARIAN by Amanda Jones: I decided to mostly stay away from political topics this month even though I have a good stack of books to read about women’s reproductive rights. Instead, I might take on this book about a librarian who was called all sorts of things for standing up for inclusivity in library catalogues. “Part memoir, part manifesto, the inspiring story of a Louisiana librarian advocating for inclusivity on the front lines of our vicious culture wars.

And, par for the course lately, I’ll have SFINCS novellas to read. So, I plan to work on those in the background.

What’s on your December 2024 TBR?

  1. I love the sound of That Librarian. I also have a more relaxed month and just a few ARCs. Hopefully that will balance out all the other chaos of the month!

    1. Love that you’re also going to have a more relaxed month! I’ve already deviated from my TBR haha. I started a different ARC, one that’s much lower stakes than Shauna Lawless’s books and probably is what I need to read for my mood anyway. 🙂
