End of the Year Book Tag 2024

With the end of the year just about here, it is yet again time for the End of the Year Book Tag 2024 edition. This is my third time participating (2023, 2022). I don’t know who created it, but it’s short and sweet. I put the prompts at the end for anyone to grab and paste into their own post. Anyone can feel free to tag themselves for this End of the Year Book Tag 2024.

Are there any books you started this year that you need to finish?

What You Are Looking For Is in the Library by Michiko Aoyama (translated by Allison Watts)That Librarian by Amanda Jones

Yes. I have two books started that I want to finish this year. The first is WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR IS IN THE LIBRARY by Michiko Aoyama. I put this one on pause to focus on THAT LIBRARIAN by Amanda Jones. THAT LIBRARIAN is about the author’s encounter with those who want to ban books and how that affected her life.

Do you have an autumnal book to transition into the end of the year?

I think I write the same thing every year, but the short answer is, “no.” I don’t really read seasonally. My book picks either align with my mood at the time or with an ARC I need/want to read.

Is there a new release you’re still waiting for?

North is the Night by Emily Rath

Yes–I preordered NORTH IS THE NIGHT by Emily Rath. However, that doesn’t mean I’ll read it this year! Its publication date in the U.S. is December 17. But I already picked out my list of hopeful reads for this month.

What are three books you want to read before the end of the year?

A Feather So Black by Lyra SeleneA Midwinter's Tale by Lili HaywardHim by Geoff Ryman

Luckily, I made a December TBR post that answers this question! I made marginal progress based on the books in that list, simply because I strayed from it. However, aside from my current reads, I want to finish the following three books: A FEATHER SO BLACK by Lyra Selene, A MIDWINTER’S TAIL by Lili Hayward, and, if I’m lucky, HIM by Geoff Ryman.

Is there a book you think that could still shock you and become your favorite book of the year?

A Feather So Black by Lyra Selene

Realistically, probably not. Out of the handful of books I want to finish this month, A FEATHER SO BLACK could surprise me. We’ll see!

Have you already started making reading plans for 2025?

Immortal by Sue Lynn Tan

I have not made any concrete reading plans for 2025. I have two January ARCs, so I’ll probably start with those. First up is IMMORTAL by Sue Lynn Tan. I also have general goals in mind for 2025 that I plan to write about. One of them is to read one Throne of Glass book per month until I finish the series.

  1. Good luck getting the books that you hope to finished by the end of the year. I’ve read two of the books you mentioned plus the Throne Of Glass series. I know it’s already on my TBR (although I can’t remember what it’s about) but seeing the cover of A Midwinters Tail again really makes me want to read it 😂 I hope you enjoy North Is The Night whenever you get to it (I adored it) and Immortal is on my TBR too. Here’s hoping it’s as good as the authors debut duology

  2. Good Luck with getting your TBR books read by the end of the year. I’ve read the first two books of The Throne of Glass but never got any further than that. I might try again some day as I did enjoy those first two.

    1. Thank you! It’s proving more stressful than I thought because I feel like I have very little time to read this month. 🙁 I’m looking forward to TOG…my good friend has been trying to get me to read them. It’s the only SJM series I haven’t read (say what?!)!

  3. I always forget about this tag, but I guess it’s not too late to do it. With only two weeks left in the year, I’m trying to decide whether to read January releases or catch up with late 2024 ARCs, or read books off my shelf. All this deciding is making my head spin, lol.

    1. It’s definitely not too late to do it! I know what you mean about trying to figure out what to focus on…I’ve decided eh, I’m going to read what I want this month. Sometimes ARCs just have to wait.

    1. Oh, that’s good to know! The genre isn’t one I dabble in much, but I love the cover, so I thought I’d give it a chance. I’ll probably bring it with me on my Christmas travels. 🙂

  4. I started Aoyama’s book earlier this year and was liking it but didn’t finish because it was due back at the library. Hope it’s going well for you.

    1. It’s a perfectly average book. I like it, but I don’t love or hate it. I think I like it more than most of the other books I’ve read that have been translated from Japanese.
