August 2025 TBR

I did okay on last month’s TBR. But because of my mental funk I only got through half of the ARCs I wanted to read. So I plopped the rest right into my August 2025 TBR. These days I tend to alternate between ARC and mood read so that reading “obligations” don’t feel like a chore. I’m super thankful to receive ARCs, but I always have to remember that I have books to read that I bought, too!

Priority Reads

Ascension by S.T. GibsonSix Wild Crowns by Holly RaceGet It Out by Andrea Becker

ASCENSION by S.T. Gibson: This is definitely my next read. Time to jump back into this urban paranormal series. “From the international bestselling author of Evocation comes it’s hotly anticipated and spellbinding sequel, where Rhys steps into his new role as High Priest. A magical read for lovers of traditional urban fantasy.

SIX WILD CROWNS by Holly Race: This is a June ARC. (Shame on me.) While I don’t read a ton of historical fiction, I do like it when it’s tied to fantasy. Back in high school I read a decent amount of Tudor era historical fiction, so I’ll sort of be going back to my reading roots. It’s “a breathtaking epic fantasy of dragons, courtly intrigue, sapphic yearning, and the wives of Henry VIII as you’ve never seen them before.

GET IT OUT by Andréa Becker: I like looking through the nonfiction ARCs on NetGalley for books related to women’s health. I don’t request them all (e.g., the ones about menopause), but this looked interesting. Especially so considering women have to persuade physicians for hysterectomies whereas men don’t face the same barriers. I’m a little annoyed it’s only a protected .pdf, so I have to read it on my computer. But at least it’s just over 200 pages, so I won’t have to read off my computer for too long. It came out a couple weeks ago. “An examination of hysterectomy and the struggle for bodily and reproductive autonomy.”

Hopeful Reads

Heir of Fire by Sarah J. MaasHeavenly Bodies by Imani Erriu

Dare I even put anything here? I don’t seem to be sticking to anything very well. And my mood reads be mood reading. I’d still like to get to HEIR OF FIRE. There are a couple of sequels coming out later this year for books I still haven’t read, so I need to spend time figuring out what those are. I think one of them is HEAVENLY BODIES by Imani Erriu. Book 2 comes out in November. Since I originally received it via my Fairyloot subscription, I need to decide if I like it enough to buy book 2 through them as well.

What’s on your August 2025 TBR?

    1. Thanks! Yea, I’m hoping a little bit that GET IT OUT has a decent references list at the end, which would mean less pages to read on the computer, lol.

  1. I’m curious about Ascention, which for some reason I either forgot to request or my request was denied, I have no idea! But I hope you enjoy it😁

    1. Well, if you applied to receive the physical ARC, they didn’t really do a great job communicating when they’d sent those out and whether or not you’d been selected. I think it hit me in late spring that I hadn’t heard anything, so I reached out to them for a digital ARC. They’ve been going through some sort of realignment or something and I think it’s been a little hectic for them the past 8+ months.

  2. I’ve been seeing Heavenly Bodies everywhere lately! I didn’t realise that it was an older release that has recently found popularity (I’m guessing cos of booktok or did it get trad pub?) but it does sound really interesting! I hope you enjoy all the books on your TBR and whatever else you pick up 🙂 Also, I fully agree that these months are passing by so quickly! I swear I just wrote my June wrap up and now we’re already into August 🫣

    1. I’ve seen HEAVENLY BODIES pop up here and there, but not ubiquitously across any bookish platform I’m a part of. Yea, it came out late last year. I believe Chris read it and really liked it.

  3. I’ll definitely be watching out for your thoughts on Six Wild Crowns. How frustrating that you have to read the non fiction arc on your computer. And I really need to try and get to Heacenly Bodies soon too. I got a special edition of book one via Waterstones and really need to find out whether it’s worth getting the sequel in the same format. I definitely appreciate the reminder that it’s getting nearer 😅 here’s hoping we both love it 🤞
