Synopsis
A swoony, steamy, STEM romance in which two curators at a science museum–a handsome but grumpy astronomer and an anxious but sunshine-y entomologist–realize they are the perfect match. Equal parts nerdy banter and fiery tension, it’s perfect for fans of Ali Hazelwood and Tessa Bailey. Now with exclusive bonus content!
Millie was never one to take the expected path. She’s an entomologist who loves her job as a natural science curator, inspiring museum visitors every day. It’s her dream to take a larger role in the planning of her department, so when a director position opens, she is determined not to let anything distract her from her goals. Especially Finn, her grumpy coworker with his permanent scowl, electric blue eyes, and nerdy astronomy ties.
. . . Not that she’s spent much time noticing any of those things.
Finn doesn’t mean to glare at everyone, but he’s juggling his role at the museum, navigating the grief of losing his sister, attempting to make his nieces smile, and trying not to ruin dinner for the fifth night in a row. He can’t afford to let anything slip, and certainly doesn’t need anything more to deal with–especially not Millie literally stumbling into him, with her bright smile and sunny optimism.
He bugs her. She’s too starry-eyed for him. They want nothing to do with each other. But with Finn on the interview committee, avoidance is impossible. And Millie soon realizes it’s one thing when a job is on the line. It’s quite another when it’s her heart.

Queen Saskia is the wicked sorceress everyone fears. After successfully wrestling the throne from her evil uncle, she only wants one thing: to keep her people safe from the empire next door. And if he writes her flirtatious poetry and his innocent touch makes her skin singe, well…Little does Saskia know that the “wizard” she’s falling for is actually an Imperial archduke in disguise, with no magical training whatsoever. On the run, with perilous secrets on his trail and a fast growing yearning for the wicked sorceress, he’s in danger from her enemies and her newfound allies, too. Maya & Natasha by Elyse Durham*
Series: None
Genre: Historical
Age Category: Adult
Publisher: Mariner Books
Publish Date: February 18, 2025
Print Length: 384
Purchase: Bookshop.org
Synopsis
This stunning debut novel set in the fascinating world of Cold War Soviet ballet follows the fates of twin sisters whose bond is competitive, complicated, but never broken.
Maya and Natasha are twin sisters born in the midst of the Siege of Leningrad in 1941 and immediately abandoned by their mother, a prima ballerina at the Kirov Ballet who would rather die than not dance. Taken in by their mother’s best friend at the Kirov, the girls are raised to be dancers themselves. The Vaganova Ballet Academy–and the totalitarian Soviet regime–is the only world they know.
In 1958, now seniors at the Vaganova at the height of the Cold War, all Maya and Natasha and their classmates want is to dance with the Kirov, and to join the company on its tour to America next year. But a new law from the Kremlin upends Maya and Natasha’s lives: due to fears of defection, family members may no longer travel abroad together. The Kirov can only accept one of them.
Maya, long accustomed to living in her sister’s shadow, accepts her bitter fate, until a new dance partner inspires her to dream bigger and practice harder. For the first time–and at the cruelest possible moment–the sisters are equally matched. And then one sister betrays the other, altering their lives forever and splitting them in two, though neither will stray far from the other’s orbit.
As one of the twins pursues her ballet career and experiences a world outside Russia for the first time, the other is cast in an epic film adaptation of War and Peace, produced and financed by the Soviet State. As the Cold War heats up, Maya and Natasha must confront their loyalties: to East versus West; to the government that saved them versus their dreams of freedom; and, always, to each other.

Synopsis
Becky Chambers meets Miss Marple in this sci-fi ode to the cozy mystery, helmed by a no-nonsense formidable auntie of a detective
A mind is a terrible thing to erase…Welcome to the HMS Fairweather, Her Majesty’s most luxurious interstellar passenger liner! Room and board are included, new bodies are graciously provided upon request, and should you desire a rest between lifetimes, your mind shall be most carefully preserved in glass in the Library, shielded from every danger.
Near the topmost deck of an interstellar generation ship, Dorothy Gentleman wakes up in a body that isn’t hers–just as someone else is found murdered. As one of the ship’s detectives, Dorothy usually delights in unraveling the schemes on board the Fairweather, but when she finds that someone is not only killing bodies but purposefully deleting minds from the Library, she realizes something even more sinister is afoot.
Dorothy suspects her misfortune is partly the fault of her feckless nephew Ruthie who, despite his brilliance as a programmer, leaves chaos in his cheerful wake. Or perhaps the sultry yarn store proprietor–and ex-girlfriend of the body Dorothy is currently inhabiting–knows more than she’s letting on. Whatever it is, Dorothy intends to solve this case. Because someone has done the impossible and found a way to make murder on the Fairweather a very permanent state indeed. A mastermind may be at work–and if so, they’ve had three hundred years to perfect their schemes…
Told through Dorothy’s delightfully shrewd POV, this novella is an ode to the cozy mystery taken to the stars with a fresh new sci-fi take. Perfect for fans of the plot-twisty narratives of Dorothy Sayers and Ann Leckie, this well-paced story will leave readers captivated and hungry for the series’s next installment.

In 2012 Joy Womack made history when she became the first American ballerina to sign a contract with the Bolshoi Ballet Theater in Moscow, Russia.
Dancing in Moscow was not the Onion Dome fairy tale she’d hoped for. The Bolshoi and its school were filled with cutthroat competition, acts of violence, and coaches who encouraged obsessive devotion. They sent her on stage with broken bones, helped her forge immigration paperwork, and encouraged her to toe a dangerous political line – all for the privilege of dancing on one of the world’s most storied stages.
As Joy’s career took off and she made a name for herself in the Russian ballet world, she had to face a hard choice. Were the growing dangers of a professional lifestyle descending into corruption worth the realization of her life’s dream?

And that’s a wrap (mostly) for my anticipated first quarter book releases in 2025! Let me know if any of these are on your list or what you look forward to reading!
Last updated on January 7, 2025.
Onyx Storm is going to kill me.
I have zero expectations…just along for the ride!
Hey Celeste,
Of course I’ve also pre-ordered Onyx Storm and am excited to see how the plot continues and what emotional chaos the author will subject us to.
A few of your other books sound interesting, but I have to concentrate on my pile of unread books first.
I wish you a happy new reading year 2025.
Cheerio
RoXXie
Happy new year, RoXXie! I’ll definitely be focusing more on my pile of unread books, too, but it is certainly fun to look up new releases. 🙂
Oh, I can’t deny you or me or anyone else that kinda fun.
I already pre-ordered some 30 books for 2025. 😀
Whoa, that’s a lot of books!!! 😅
I guess I couldn’t control myself. But most of them are the next installments. 😀
Once Was Willem and Greenteeth are also on my list. And wow, I don’t have time to read non fiction but I really want to check out Behind the Red Velvet Curtain!
I just got my ARC of Greenteeth in the mail and can’t wait to read it! It looks snarky as all get out.
Maya and Natasha sounds really intriguing, so this goes straight to the TBR. Onyx Storm and A Language of Dragons were already on my radar.
Nice. Happy to have added to your TBR!
I’ve just finished my ARC of Language of Dragons and really enjoyed it. I’m also looking forward to Onyx Storm too and can’t wait to see where the political story goes next as I’m enjoying that aspect of the books much more than the romance 😳
Nice! I’ll keep an eye out for your review! I’m interested in LANGUAGE OF DRAGONS, but it’s also YA and that usually makes me wary of requesting something because I’m not sure if it’ll feel too young for me. I agree–I’m also looking forward more to the political story rather than the romance. For me, I think that’s because I felt the build up of their relationship in FW was just too fast, so I felt less invested from the get go. Buuuut I think I’m in the minority on that opinion, lol!
Language of Dragons was definitely YA and in my opinion, towards the younger end of that category. I enjoyed the story though. It had Naomi Novik vibes with an alternate history where dragons live alongside humans which was interesting.
In that case I’m glad I held on requesting it since I prefer the older end of YA when I read within that group. Sounds like a library read for me!
I’m looking forward to Greenteeth and Murder by Memory!
Two of these are on my most anticipated releases list too, although a fair few of the others are also on my general TBR (especially as I’ve now added two more). I definitely relate to the rush to get this kind of post done. I wrote up the majority of mine a couple of months ago and had a look at a few Goodreads lists then but I was hoping to have another look before finalising it (which I’m not convinced I’ll have time to do) and recently wrote up a bit about the few I hadn’t done yet.
I’m really curious about Water Moon it sounds different to what I usually pick up but so good. I really hope you enjoy the latest Empyrean book too (hopefully I’ll finally start the series in January or February 🤞
Water Moon does sound different to what I usually, pick, too, but I think that’s why I’m drawn to it. I love romantasy, but sometimes I just need a break from it!
Hopefully it’ll work for both of us then 🤞 and it is nice to try and mix genres up a bit at times
Greenteeth looks so good! I’d read it right away, but I have other reading obligations this month.
I’ve seen Greenteeth and Watermoon on a lot of lists for the past month or so. I’m not sure if they’ll be for me but seeing them everywhere does pique my curiosity! I’m hoping to get more into A Language of Dragons tonight—it has such an interesting premise and I really hope it’s well pulled off 🤣 I hope you enjoy all of these books whenever you get around to them!
Greenteeth looks so good! I got my physical ARC in the mail and I really want to start it right away, but I’ve got other reading obligations at the moment for the SFINCS competition.
