Thanks to Zezee With Books, I found this Ten Lords A Leaping Book Tag that looks perfect for bookish holiday fun. Zezee found it on Falling Down the Book Hole, but it might have been created by Sarah at Book Hooked Nook, a now deleted blog. My answers will use books I read only in 2024 (in case I decide to do this book tag every year). If you want to participate, I put the prompts at the end of this post for easy copying and pasting into your own blog.
Stocking: A book that is full of surprises
By law a Sarah J. Maas book must be the answer for this prompt. So I pick HOUSE OF FLAME AND SHADOW. Do I even remember everything that happened? Absolutely not.
Mistletoe: Your favorite book full of cute kisses
I don’t read a lot of cutesy stuff, but DATING AND DRAGONS by Kristy Boyce fits that bill. Read my full review here.
Snowman: A book that leaves an icy chill
Probably THE BLACK HUNGER by Nicholas Pullen. I did not expect that ending! Read my full review here.
Turkey: A book with all the yummy food
Food wasn’t really a main focus in any books I read this year. But if I have to pick, let’s go with NOT ANOTHER LOVE SONG by Julie Soto. There’s a scene where the main character orders tacos and that sounds delicious right now.
Cracker: A book that ends with a bang
Again, I didn’t expect that ending. If you know, you know. It took me forever to finish this book, but I’m eager to read ONYX STORM next year. Read my full review here.
Decorations: A book with a magical setting or scenery
I mean, I read a lot of fantasy, so most books have a magical setting or scenery! But the first book that comes to mind is THE CITY OF STARDUST by Georgia Summers. The earthside world isn’t all that magical, but descriptions of other settings are. Read my full review here.
Sprouts: A book that you loathe
There weren’t many books I read in 2024 that I gave less than three stars. But IMMORTAL PLEASURES by V. Castro is one of them. Read my full review here.
Santa: A book that keeps on giving
I reread A COURT OF FROST AND STARLIGHT this year, so I can include it here! 😛 I have a better appreciation for it after rereading it a couple of times over just as many years. Some aspects of it unexpectedly hit a little hard this year considering my own personal struggles. So this book has a little place in my heart. Read my full review here.
Boxing Day: A book that you were sad was over
I really liked THE HURRICANE WARS by Thea Guanzon and, despite the fact that it’s long, I was sad when it ended! Thankfully the next book is out, so I can jump back into that world soon.
Shining Star: Your favorite book of the year
Oh my, I really haven’t given this prompt any serious thought yet. I’m a picky person, so I never have a lot of “favorites” in any given year. But, looking at what I read this year, here are some favorites: ADELAIDE by Genevieve Wheeler, NOT ANOTHER LOVE SONG by Julie Soto, THE HURRICANAE WARS by Thea Guanzon, and WEYWARD by Emilia Hart.

Fun tag, I would consider doing this but I don’t want to reveal my favorite books of the year until December 31, when my “best of the year” post goes up. I never got around to reading Immortal Pleasures because of all the bad reviews, so it doesn’t surprise me to see it in that category.
Totally understandable—I still need to actually sit down and think about which books I feel are my “best of the year.” So consider this a sampling haha. Immortal Pleasures seems to overall have bad reviews. I remember looking at GR reviews a couple months after reading it and the positive reviews were few. 😬
Okay so not only was this a lot of fun but now I’m eager to click over and read your review of ‘Immortal Pleasures’ because V. Castro is one of my favorite authors! I love her books so I’m really intrigued to hear your thoughts on this one, especially as I haven’t read it myself yet.
Merry Christmas, Celeste! May the holidays be a joyful and restorative time for you :).
This was definitely a fun tag! I hope you had a lovely Christmas, Michael! 🙂
Great tag!
What a fun tag! I’m definitely gonna be bookmarking this to do in the next few days 🙂 I really enjoyed reading your answers and I’m excited to see Adelaide and Not Another Love Song on your favourites list because I’m hoping to read them in 2025. 😍
Yessss you should read ADELAIDE and NOT ANOTHER LOVE SONG in 2025! They’re great!
Thanks for the tag, I had so much fun reading your answers. Happy Christmas for tomorrow 🥰 I still need to read the Crescent City series but I did enjoy A Court Of Frost & Starlight and I adored City Of Stardust 😍 I’ve got to admit that I’m not surprised to see Immortal Pleasures listed as a disappointment as I feel like every review I saw for that was pretty low 😬 I’m glad you loved Hurricane Wars so much though. Here’s hoping the sequel will end up being another hit. And I’m very excited to finally start Fourth Wing soon, especially knowing that the sequel has a notable ending. How exciting!!
You’re welcome! I hope I like the sequel to THE HURRICANE WARS, too! I want to pick it up soon, but it’s not in my cards for January. I hope you like FOURTH WING!
Well whenever you get to it hopefully it’ll be worth the wait. And thank you.
Glad you did the tag too 🙂 Dating and Dragons does sound to be a cute read.
Thanks! It was a fun tag. 🙂
