Apologies that I haven’t been on the blogosphere much, much less posted a review in the last week! We had our floors done upstairs and it’s been a bit chaotic. So my reading time has been more sporadic. And then we found out that our HVAC system is on the fritz (and our water heater maybe has another year left), which is not something we anticipated. I had no idea how expensive HVAC systems are!!! Naturally, we found this out after we’d paid for the flooring contract and paid a lot of money to have our AC fixed in our car. This year is quickly becoming expensive! š Anyway…enough life stuff.
WWW Wednesday was revived and hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words. The idea is to answer the three questions below and leave a link to your post in the comments for others to look at. No blog? No problem! Just leave a comment with your responses.

What have you just finished reading?

Honestly, I’m still reading the same two books as last week.
DEFY THE NIGHT by Brigid Kemmerer:Ā I’m 60% through with this and it’s not bad. It keeps me entertained while I’m doing chores or mundane tasks at home. I like that this YA book shows why political issues/topics can be complicated and it’s never as straightforward as an outsider might think it is.
THE GEOMAGICIAN by Jennifer Mandula:Ā At the time of writing this I finished 65% of the book (and will hopefully be farther along by the time this post goes live). Despite the mixed reviews, I’m actually enjoying it. I love that the author heavily bases this on actual historical figures and geologic debates of the time.
Just Finished

FALLING BACK IN LOVE WITH BEING HUMAN by Kai Cheng Thom: I picked this up on a whim while searching Libby for an LGBTQ+ read. I’m not usually a big poetry person, but I think I get more out of it when it’s the author who narrates it to me. That way they can assign as much emotion as they need to get their meaning across. (Especially in this instance where the author is trans and I am not.)
Reading Next

I don’t mean for this WWW Wednesday to be basically the same as last week, but that’s just how it happens sometimes! So I’ll probably pick up ROLLS AND RIVALRY by Kristy Boyce next. I need something a little lighter and quicker to read to make me feel like I’m making progress on my ARCs!

Ouch! The last thing you need is unexpected bills after already spending moneyā¹ļø Hopefully there arenāt any more nasty surprises hiding in your future.
Yes, that was an unpleasant surprise. We just went through a heat wave and thankfully our HVAC held up. So we’re not sure if it was luck or if the pressure reading indicating a leak was inaccurate. Either way we need to get a second opinion. But I hope our HVAC continues to work because that price tag was a shocker.
Oh no, hopefully life stops with the unexpected bills. I always hate when I think everything is all done and then a problem appears.
At least you had a good week with books! Hope you enjoy those books you are currently reading/going to be reading next.
Yes, and I particularly dislike when all the problems seem to happen at once!
Same, and it seems the universe loves throwing it all together.
Good luck with all the repairs! It can be so chaotic to have major projects going on at home. Hope you find time to relax and read!
Thanks! I found sometime to read, finally, Sunday evening. I didnāt get as much reading done as I hoped, but itās better than nothing!
Itās the rule of threes, one major appliance breakdown will always be followed by two more in quick succession.
I did like The Geomagician but thought it was let down somewhat by the execution.
Happy reading!
You’re absolutely right! When something bad happens expect something else bad to happen! š As I just told Janette above, our HVAC held up ok during our recent heat wave, so we’re hoping it continues to do so.
I’m so sorry for the many unexpected bills! š As a newly growing adult, it always surprises me how expensive life maintenance is!!!
As a not-so-new-adult, I can tell you I’m even surprised at how expensive some life maintenance is! Especially when it comes to things that aren’t an everyday fix. Meh. Well, now you know HVACs are expensive! š
