Surprisingly, the flooring install upstairs (including the stairs) is done! They finished it in two days when we were told it’d take 4-5 days. So that’s awesome. We can only walk on the stairs with socks for the next week or so, though, while the seal and polyurethane coating over the stain cures. It’s a win since we thought we’d have to do some sink bathing after sports this week! Anyway, on with WWW Wednesday!
WWW Wednesday was revived and hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words. The idea is to answer the three questions below and leave a link to your post in the comments for others to look at. No blog? No problem! Just leave a comment with your responses.

DEFY THE NIGHT by Brigid Kemmerer: Staying true to my May 2026 TBR, I picked this up in audiobook format. So far it’s fine at about 20% in. It’s not blowing my socks of yet, but neither do I find it boring. I feel like the older I get the less interested I am in YA books…which makes sense, I guess!
THE GEOMAGICIAN by Jennifer Mandula: I was going to pick up ROLLS AND ROMANCE for my eyeball read, but Chris reached out and asked if I wanted to buddy read THE GEOMAGICIAN. So I said yes! I’m just over 10% into my ARC. So far I like it.
Just Finished

A CURSE CARVED IN BONE by Danielle Jensen: Boy, this was such a lackluster finish to the duology. I really enjoyed the first book. But the first half of book two just annoyed me. I understand why Freya acted the way she did, but that doesn’t mean I enjoyed reading about it. By the time the plot twist happened I sadly just didn’t care anymore. It took me almost a year to finish this book. The cover art for this series is gorgeous, so I’m bummed I didn’t really like it as much as I wanted to.
THE INFINITE SADNESS OF SMALL APPLIANCES by Glenn Dixon: My review for this ARC posted a couple days ago, so check it out if you missed it!
NIMONA by N.D. Stevenson: I picked this graphic novel up on a whim because I was looking for something easier to listen to while working. (I really can’t listen to complicated plots while working.) The audiobook has a full cast, which was awesome. This has the LGBTQ+ label on Storygraph, and I admit I was confused as to why since I didn’t think any of the content or characters were queer. However, some internet searching afterward informed me that Nimona is an allegory for queer representation depicted by her shapeshifting abilities. Book Riot has a good article about it. “Nimona is an impulsive young shapeshifter with a knack for villainy. Lord Ballister Blackheart is a villain with a vendetta. As sidekick and supervillain, Nimona and Lord Blackheart are about to wreak some serious havoc.”

ROLLS AND RIVALRY by Kristy Boyce: I’ll probably pick up this early May ARC next. I always have a good time with Boyce’s D&D contemporary romances, even though they’re YA.

Defy the Night was quite popular when it came out, and I am curious about it. I hope it picks up for you!
I have a copy of Nimona somewhere in an “S” box in the garage. If I ever make it to S in my library project, I might finally read it!
Yay for the floor being finished in record time. I hope that you enjoy both of your current reads but definitely agree with you about YA books as you get older. I’m definitely not the target audience but every so often an author surprises me.
Urgh, FINE, I’ll go back to the Geomagician.
I really didn’t love book 1 in that Jensen series. It was a bummer because I love her other work. I have not felt the need to pick up the second book and it seems like I’m right in that decision. I’m sorry it didn’t work for you. I hope you enjoy R&R!!
Congrats on your new floor! What a big project! I read Nimona years ago and enjoyed it… and I think maybe there’s a version on Netflix too? I hope you enjoy The Geomagicians — I’ve heard good things so far!
