I’ve had…a day, and I was exhausted last night, so hello WWW Wednesday evening blog post!

WWW Wednesday was revived and hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words. The idea is to answer the three questions below and leave a link to your post in the comments for others to look at. No blog? No problem! Just leave a comment with your responses.

The Entanglement of Rival Wizards by Sara Raasch

THE ENTANGLEMENT OF RIVAL WIZARDS by Sara Raasch: I’m almost finished with this and really hope to read the last 70 pages tonight. Overall, I have mixed feelings about this book. I appreciate the mental health representation and acknowledgment of toxic families. But I feel like I was plopped into a rivalry that didn’t have much build up and therefore I’m left unconvinced by their supposed chemistry. I plan to write a full review with more thoughts once I finish this book.

The Serviceberry by Robin Wall KimmererSpells for Forgetting by Adrienne YoungDemon in the Wood by Leigh Bardugo and Dani Pendergast

THE SERVICEBERRY by Robin Wall Kemmerer: I also had mixed feelings about this book, which I listened to via audiobook. I thought this would include more information about the actual plant. But it’s mostly musings about how the serviceberry is a metaphor for the gift economy. I appreciate learning about the gift economy, but I don’t know…it was a little too touchy feely for me (or my mood, I guess). I think I might’ve enjoyed it more as an eyeball read. So if I ever read BRAIDING SWEETGRASS, that’s what I’ll do.

DEMON IN THE WOOD by Leigh Bardugo: I didn’t know this graphic novel existed until I was scrolling through audiobooks on Libby. I like the audiobook production. This was an interesting slice of life into the Darkling’s childhood. Overall, it was fine–it wasn’t a five-star read for me nor did I hate it. It was simply a little clip about the Darkling that I don’t know what I’m supposed to do with, lol.

SPELLS FOR FORGETTING by Adrienne Young: This is another audiobook I finished over the last week! I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would. I don’t regret selling my Fairyloot edition because I don’t think I would’ve enjoyed it as much as an eyeball read. But the narrators were fantastic and kept me interested in what otherwise would’ve felt like a slow-moving, small town, atmospheric mystery if I’d read a physical copy. One aspect didn’t seem to resolve, though, so I stuck with a solid 4-star rating. “A deeply atmospheric story about ancestral magic, an unsolved murder, and a second chance at true love.”

The Zorg by Siddharth KaraWater Moon by Samantha Sotto Yambao

THE ZORG by Siddharth Kara: I don’t usually read nonfiction about ships. In fact, I’m not really ever interested in them! But I spotted this as a potential gift for a family member and wanted to see if it was good. However, I already bought them a different book, so the point is kind of moot, lol! Now I just think it’ll be a good piece of history to learn about. This will be an audiobook read for me, which my library just got in.

WATER MOON by Samantha Sotto Yambao: Aaaand this is my next cozy fantasy read I’m picking up from my November TBR! Always nice to pick up on of my book sub books! “A woman inherits a pawnshop where you can sell your regrets, and then embarks on a magical quest when a charming young physicist wanders into the shop, in this dreamlike fantasy novel.

  1. I gave The Entanglement of Rival Wizards 3.5 stars, it was mixed for me too. I like her holiday themed series more, it’s much lighter and happier. This book was sort of a downer!

    1. Maybe I’ll try one of her holiday ones, then. For me it was more the instalust and being plopped right into a storyline where I had to play catchup.

  2. Water Moon sounds as though it might be really good. The Zorg definltely sounds like a much weightier read and I hope that you enjoy both of them.

    1. I just finished Water Moon and it was ok. I went in knowing it had mixed reviews and my opinion also falls into the “liked it, but wasn’t blown away” category. I’ll try to write a review this weekend.
