WWW Wednesday: June 11, 2025

I feel like I’m slowly coming out of my reading slump. I realized I haven’t really written a ton of book reviews lately, which honestly has felt nice. Maybe I just need(ed) a break from “obligatory” reading and reviewing. So I’m leaning into that a little bit. I still plan on writing a review for THE KNIGHT AND THE MOTH, but haven’t found the time yet. Anyway, let’s get on with this week’s WWW Wednesday.

WWW Wednesday was revived and hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words. The idea is to answer the three questions below and leave a link to your post in the comments for others to look at. No blog? No problem! Just leave a comment with your responses.

What are you currently reading?

What have you just finished reading?

Currently Reading

The Quiet Damage by Jesselyn CookThe Nightshade God by Hannah Whitten

THE QUIET DAMAGE by Jesselyn Cook: I saw Jenna’s book review for this an immediately threw it onto my TBR. The author is the audiobook narrator and does a pretty good job. The topic is obviously heavy, but morbidly fascinating, particularly if you wonder how folks get sucked up into these conspiracy theories. It’s also really sad because concerned family members see how their wife, mother, etc. have been subsumed by this stuff. “The “gripping” (The Atlantic) story of five families shattered by pernicious, pervasive conspiracy theories, and how we might set ourselves free from a crisis that could haunt American life for generations.

THE NIGHTSHADE GOD by Hannah Whitten: I said I’d read this next and gosh darn it, here I am. I’m not super far into this one yet, but I hope I like the conclusion to this trilogy.

A House With Good Bones by T. KingfisherThe Wedding People by Alison Espach

A HOUSE WITH GOOD BONES by T. Kingfisher: This marks my third Kingfisher book read. As I mentioned last week, my interest piqued when Kingfisher incorporated an entomological aspect to the story. While I didn’t really find any of it all that scary, I had a good time listening to the audiobook. I also really liked the narrator. “A haunting Southern Gothic from an award-winning master of suspense, A House With Good Bones explores the dark, twisted roots lurking just beneath the veneer of a perfect home and family.

THE WEDDING PEOPLE by Alison Espach: Overall, I enjoyed this book. There are definitely some content warnings for this one, so I recommend looking those up before reading this. In a nutshell, this book is about having the courage to be yourself and accept yourself even if you’ve changed. I don’t really read a ton of contemporary fiction, but I quite liked this one and recommend it. “A propulsive and uncommonly wise novel about one unexpected wedding guest and the surprising people who help her start anew.

Everybody Wants to Rule the World Except Me by Django Wexler

EVERYBODY WANTS TO RULE THE WORLD EXCEPT ME by Django Wexler: I think I’ll pick up this one next. It’s the final book in a duology plus it’s a dark comedic fantasy, so a bit different from THE NIGHTSHADE GOD. I’m also behind on my Orbit ARCs, so, being the firstborn that I am, I want to still show that I appreciate receiving review copies. “Dark Lord Davi rules the kingdom, but she must now break the time loop that binds her in this hilariously bloody conclusion to the Dark Lord Davi duology.

  1. I’m sorry to hear that you’ve been in a reading slump—at least you’re coming out of it now! Hope this week is better for you 🙂

    1. We definitely do! I’ve been blogging for 4 years now and haven’t taken many breaks, so maybe it’s starting to get to me.

  2. I’m behind on Orbit ARCs too😬 But I’m reading one of them right now, so I feel better about it. I’ve heard some good things about The Wedding People but cant remember what the trigger warnings are, so of course I need to go look them up!

  3. I’m glad that you’re coming out of your reading slump and I definitely agree that the prospect of having to write a review can put you off reading. I’m currently way behind with my reviews after binge reading last week and have no idea when I will get round to writing them.
I really hope that the Nightshade God is good. I so want to know how it ends and especially how the love triangle works out.

    1. Me too! It’s still a busy month for me so I’m not able to read every evening, but I am looking forward to June’s TBR. Good luck with catching up on your backlog of reviews!

  4. I’m glad you feel like you’re getting out of your reading slump and hope this month brings lots of wonderful books your way 🥰

As I’m incredibly desperate to read The Knight & The Moth and The Nightshade God and want to go into both knowing as little as possible I’ll leave reading them until I’ve read the books but I’ll make sure to save the email notifications about them as I can’t wait to swap thoughts.

I’m glad you enjoyed both of your recent reads and the conspiracy theory one sounds fascinating. I read a thriller last year that covered that sort of element and it was devastating to see the impact that they could have. So seeing a true account could certainly be eye opening.

I hope you have a great week.

    1. Thanks, Charlotte! 🙂

I just scheduled my review of THE KNIGHT AND THE MOTH to go up tomorrow morning, 6 am ET or 11 am BST, I think! I have a feeling you’ll very much enjoy this book.

      1. Ooh I’ll save the post to check out once I’ve read the book. Hopefully it won’t be too long (I just need to get on and treat myself to it 😂)

  5. I am so looking forward to Everybody Wants to Rule etc etc! And interesting to hear you say House with Good Bones didn’t scare you – I’m such a wuss with horror, but I do love Kingfisher’s books.

    1. I don’t read a ton of horror because I’m not into the gross and/or murderous aspect of it haha. But this one I could easily handle, so you might be able to as well. It’s more of a gothic horror where there’s an element of creepiness that builds. You also have to not mind talk about insects for this one.

    1. Excellent, I hope you find it interesting! I’m 75% through with it and it’s just so sad how caught up some people are in that world. 🙁 And how hard it is to bring them back to reality.

  6. The Wedding People is sitting on my shelf, borrowed from a friend, I need to get to it.
