WWW Wednesday was revived and hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words. The idea is to answer the three questions below and leave a link to your post in the comments for others to look at. No blog? No problem! Just leave a comment with your responses.

Currently Reading
THE HATE U GIVE by Angie Thomas: I’m listening to this via audiobook and have about 20% left. I picked it up because I know it’s a frequently banned book in the U.S. What I didn’t expect is how good it is. Plus the narrator is fantastic. Never before have I looked up a narrator’s other books to see what else of their interests me. If you haven’t read this, I definitely recommend it.
THE TRAITOR OF SHERWOOD FOREST by Amy Kaufman: The medieval-esque cover of this book caught my eye on NetGalley. I’m about 40% through at the moment. While I like it, it is a little slow. I keep feeling like I’m barely making progress when I read it. But, I’ll get there! “An immersive, sultry, heart-pounding historical reimagining of the Robin Hood ballads, told through the piercing eyes of one of his spies.“
Recently Finished
THE WHISPER THAT REPLACED GOD by Timothy Wolff: This is a SFINCS novella that I have to read for the finalist round. It was unique and might leave you scratching your head. Review to come on Friday. “Murder is just, so long as it serves the crown.“
SWORD CATCHER by Cassandra Clare: I’m happy to say I finished this chonk last week. Overall, I liked it, but dang did it take a while to get going. I want to write a review for it, but just haven’t had the time yet. I think I’ll continue the series. However, I’m not sure whether I’ll buy the matching Fairyloot edition of the sequel. “Two outcasts find themselves caught in a web of dangerous magic and dark secrets that could change the world forever in the start of a riveting epic fantasy series from the author of The Shadowhunter Chronicles.“

I decided to completely upend my March TBR and instead focus on ARCs. The number of ARCs I have snuck up on me because they’re spread out between now and July. Plus I have a few 2024 ARCs on my shelf. All this to say I want to feel free to mood read during April, my birthday month, so I’m going to put in the work in March. So, ONCE WITH WILLEM is still on the table. I’m also eying my ARC of ISABELLA NAGG AND THE POT OF BASIL.
I loved The Hate You Give and Angie Thoma’s companion novels to that one: On the Come Up and Concret Rose are also incredible
Oh, I didn’t know there are companions novels to THE HATE U GIVE. Thanks, I’ll have to look them up!
I’m curious to see what you think of Once Was Willem. I haven’t read many reviews yet, and I loved it but the style may not work for some readers.
Well, I was able to push through THE BLACK HUNGER & ended up liking it. If the style of ONCE WAS WILLEM is pretty unique, I’m determined to push through it because it’s medieval & I need more medieval books in my life!
Glad to hear you like the Hate U Give! I’ve got to read that later this year for school, so hope I enjoy it then!
I hope you enjoy it when you get to read it later! I think it’s a great pick for school reading.
Thanks!
I’ve heard a lot about The Hate U Give but hadn’t realised that it was banned in parts of the US. I’m glad that you enjoyed it and it’s always nice when the narrator is brilliant. I don’t listen to many audio books but the narrator definitely makes a huge difference to how much I enjoy the books.
Glad that you eventually enjoyed Sword Catcher too. I’ve just picked up Ragpicker King which feels even longer!!!
Yea, it’s banned probably in some high school libraries, and who knows, maybe even in other places. It’s hard to keep up with everything. 🙁
I’m glad SWORD CATCHER eventually got more interesting. I’m surprised you feel THE RAGPICKER KING feels longer since it’s a shorter book, lol!
It was thicker than I remembered Sword Catcher being but that’s probably just my memory playing up 😀
YES! THUG is so good and it’s one of the YA books I always recommend, especially when people are looking to diversify their YA reading list. I didn’t read this with the audio but you’ve made me curious about the narrator. I’ll have to check out who it is and listen to the sample, lol 👀
I’ll definitely be recommending THUG to everyone, too! You have to check out the audiobook…the narrator was great.
THUG is a great read!! I have seen so many mixed things about Sword Catcher! I still don’t know if I want to read it. lol
Yay, glad you like THE HATE U GIVE, too! I’m glad I picked it up on a whim because it was great.
Swordcatcher was real slow, and I could not get over how similar Kel was to a character of A Darker Shade of Magic…named Kell. I ultimately decided I wasn’t continuing on.
But I LOVED The Hate U Give. I don’t read a lot of contemporary, but that was worth it.
Well, luckily for me (I guess), I haven’t read A DARKER SHADE OF MAGIC, so everything about Kel was new to me. I hope Clare didn’t fully rip Kell from ADSOM. :-/
THE HATE U GIVE was fantastic. I’m considering buying a physical copy for myself.
I’m glad we survived Sword Catcher. It was a real slog there for a while. lol. I can’t wait to see what you think of Once Was Willem. It had such a unique voice, and I’m curious to see if you’ll like it.
It was certainly a slog. Tammy said the same thing about ONCE WAS WILLEM, so I hope I like it!
I’ve never read The Hate U Give but I did really enjoy the adaptation of it and plan to read it one day. I’m glad you’re enjoying it so much. Despite how slow you’re finding it I’m also going to have to look up The Traitor Of Sherwood Forest. The covers too pretty not to plus I can enjoy a slow paced read sometimes.
I understand not buying a special edition of the sequel to The Sword Catcher. I enjoyed it once it got going but I’m most likely borrowing the sequel from the library. I can always buy it in the future if it proves to be five star worthy now that the groundwork has been laid.
Good luck catching up on your arcs 🥰 it looks like you have some really good ones to get to. I hope you enjoy them.
