Before I get into this Sundays In Bed With meme, I want to provide a little announcement of sorts. Over the next couple of weeks I may seem a little quieter than usual. I may even interact a little less depending on how I’m feeling. This is because I’m doing a Big Life Thing that, if all goes well, will culminate in a short but important operation. I’m ok, and hopefully I won’t endure a ton of unwelcome side effects leading up to the procedure. But it isn’t nothing to put my body through this Big Life Thing. So I’m going to do my best to create a calm environment for myself. And that might mean stepping away more from socials.
I’m hoping that as I progress through the various steps and process the results, then I’ll eventually feel more comfortable to share. But I don’t want to rush myself. While I’m not a superstitious person, I don’t want to jump ahead of myself until I know the outcome. Because it is, as I said, a Big Life Thing and I’ve got all my fingers and toes crossed here. What I’m embarking on is one of many steps to get to a Big Life Goal. I know this is super vague, but trust that I’ll still be around in some capacity. This is also a general reminder that you never know what’s going on behind the curated scenes of someone’s life. So be kind. 🙂
Anyway, on to the Sundays in Bed With… meme. It’s hosted by Midnight Book Girl, dares to ask what book has been in your bed this morning. Come share what book you’ve spent time curled up reading in bed, or which book you wish you had time to read today!
You Are Here by David Nicholls
This is one of those infrequent instances where I actually like the U.S. cover of this book better than the U.K. cover. The image here doesn’t quite to the cover justice. In person the whole dust jacket has a metallic sheen and what appears tan in the image is actually silver. Anyway, while I’m making slower-than-I-want progress, in a way I’m savoring and enjoying this book. I don’t know that it will be a 5-star read for me like ADELAIDE by Genevieve Wheeler was. But it’s entertaining and I’ve chuckled aloud numerous times while reading this. I even elected to watch a YouTube video with my husband about the coast-to-coast walk across England featured in this book.
I think the thing keeping me from more deeply connecting with it is the slight cultural difference between British and American styles of communication/humor. It’s not glaringly obvious, but it’s enough that I feel like I’m missing out a little bit on the joke here. It could also just be the author’s style of writing doesn’t completely click with me even though I’m still very much enjoying it. However, I’m enjoying my month away from reading fantasy, and that includes YOU ARE HERE.

THE INSTANT #1 SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER
From the internationally bestselling and Booker Prize-longlisted author of One Day, one of the most enduring love stories of its generation, comes an uplifting and unputdownable love story about second chances.
Sometimes you need to get lost to find your way . . .
Michael is coming undone. Adrift after his wife’s departure, he has begun taking himself on long, solitary walks across the English countryside. Becoming ever more reclusive, he’ll do anything to avoid his empty house.
Marnie, on the other hand, is stuck. Hiding alone in her London flat, she avoids old friends and any reminders of her rotten, selfish ex-husband. Curled up with a good book, she’s battling the long afternoons of a life that feels like it’s passing her by.
When a persistent mutual friend and some very unpredictable weather conspire to toss Michael and Marnie together on the most epic of ten-day hikes, neither of them can think of anything worse. Until, of course, they discover exactly what they’ve been looking for.
Michael and Marnie are on the precipice of a bright future . . . if they can survive the journey.
A hilarious, hopeful, and heartwarming love story–the novel beloved New York Times bestselling author David Nicholls calls “my funniest book yet”–You Are Here is a bittersweet and hopeful story of first encounters, second chances, and finding the way home.
Great minds obviously think alike this week ???? I know what you mean about the difference between American and British humour but am glad that you still find bits to chuckle about. The US cover does look pretty.
I hope that your Big Life Thing goes well and that you get closer to your ultimate goal. XX
Yes! I enjoy British humor, but sometimes it takes me an extra couple of seconds to fully get it.
And thank you! I also want to say thanks for continuing to hop on over to my blog and read and comment on it. It really means a lot. <3
????????
And more question marks rather than hearts. I need to remember not to use emojis 🙂
Good luck with your Big Life Thing! It sounds like stepping away from things will be a good thing for you.
Thanks, Tammy! I think so, too. Especially because I’ve been feeling a little salty about comments and my perceived lack of reciprocity. So a HUGE thanks to you for continuing to visit my li’l blog and interact with me here. <3
Good luck with your Thing.
Thanks!
