WWW Wednesday: September 10, 2025

Well, I skipped last week’s WWW Wednesday because I was travelling the weekend beforehand. And when I got back home last Tuesday I just felt pretty overwhelmed with planned events the rest of the week. That’s ok, though, because I didn’t really have a lot to show for it for a WWW Wednesday update. This week’s covers my last two weeks’ worth of reading.

WWW Wednesday was revived and hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words. The idea is to answer the three questions below and leave a link to your post in the comments for others to look at. No blog? No problem! Just leave a comment with your responses.

Currently Reading

Katabasis by R.F. Kuang

KATABASIS by R.F. Kuang: I’m buddy reading this with a few folks. I didn’t originally plan to join that buddy read, but decided on a whim to do it. It was the push I needed to read one of my book subscription deliveries. I haven’t read BABEL, so this is my first dark academia experience of Kuang’s published works. So far I’m liking it.

HOUSE OF SALT AND SORROW by Erin Craig: I’ve had this as a physical copy on my shelf for years. Always distracted by other things, I decided to just read it via audiobook. At 50% in, it’s fine. It’s both YA and gothic-like, so I’m not gripped yet. I didn’t realize it’s kind of a fantasy mystery. “Get swept away by this “haunting” (Bustle) novel about twelve beautiful sisters living on an isolated island estate who begin to mysteriously die one by one.

Just Finished

Ministry of Truth by Steve BenenA Fae in Finance by Juliet BrooksThe Faerie Morgana by Louisa Morgan

MINISTRY OF TRUTH by Steven Benen: As I mentioned in my last WWW Wednesday, this book is a good reminder of things that happened during T’s first administration…without the facade of Republican lying.

A FAE IN FINANCE by Juliet Brooks: This was an ARC that I hoped to enjoy during my quick trip to New England. Unfortunately, it was a DNF at 51%. I’ll have my review up sometime this month.

THE FAERIE MORGANA by Louisa Morgan: This was another ARC and, fortunately, I really enjoyed this one. In case you missed here, here’s my book review for it. I’d never read any of Morgan’s books prior to this. But after reading this Arthurian retelling, I just might have to. “In this atmospheric and bewitching novel, Louisa Morgan reimagines the story of Morgan Le Fay, one of the most enigmatic and powerful women in Arthurian legend.

Get It Out by Andrea Becker

So far I’m flying through my September TBR, mainly because of a DNF. While I want to read A RARE FIND by Joanna Lowell next, I realized the other day that my access to GET IT OUT on NetGalley runs out in a month. So, I need to read it next or I won’t be able to review it. Annoyingly, it’s not in an epub format, so I have to read it on my laptop. That’s the last time I make the mistake of not checking the file formats available before I request an ARC.

  1. I’m sad to hear you DNFd A Fae in Finance, I can’t wait to hear more! I always forget to check the formats on NetGalley books too. If it turns out there is a PDF available, you can convert it to an ePub, but sometimes they only allow you to read it on the app. Boo!

  2. Ugh! I hate reading books on my laptop. It is a good way of making sure that you check formats first though. I’ve only done it once and it was a real pain, I’m definitely going to keep an eye for Faerie Morgana later this month.

  3. WHY IS EVERYONE BUT ME READING KATABASIS!!?? I mean, I know why, I don’t want to buy the hardcover as I have all her others in paperback, but still. I’m grumpy about this decision. Hopefully it stays great 🙂

    1. Me too!! Although I wish I could keep reading it…it’s hard to stop myself and move on to another book once I finish the week’s chapters.

      1. Yeah, I know! Especially, when it’s in the middle of things happening. You could always read the chapters Sunday/Monday. Then you get a huge chunk in and technically in two weeks. haha

  4. I was actually going to ask in chat whether this was your first Kuang experience, so I’m glad to hear you’re enjoying it. I hope it stays that way for you as the read goes on! 🥰 Sorry to hear about Fae in Finance though! That looked like it’d be a fun time. I’ll look out for your review!

    1. It is! Katabasis doesn’t feel as hardcore academic as I thought it would (though to be fair it is still academic), so maybe Babel is even more so, idk! One day I’ll read Babel, but it won’t be this year, lol.

    1. Ugh, yes, I hate when I have to read a book on my laptop. In some cases I get it, like when it’s a graphic novel and not all Kindles are equipped with color. In this case I think it’s because it was a small, university press.

    1. I finished HOUSE OF SALT AND SORROWS yesterday and it ended better than I expected. It won’t be a reread for me, but at least it ramped up at the end even if the foreshadowing felt kind of absent (at least to me via audiobook internalization of the story).
