WWW Wednesday: July 23, 2025

I know, another week where I go straight into another WWW Wednesday with no book review to show for it. I’m not in the best headspace right now and, as such, am not feeling super motivated to blog. So, my generation of new book reviews is suffering because of it. (And apologies for not blog hopping as much this past week.) I’m just trying to do things that keep me a little sane or make me a little happy. And this WWW Wednesday thing is an easy way to connect with you all and stay a little abreast of this community. <3 Anyway, onward to the book meme…

WWW Wednesday was revived and hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words. The idea is to answer the three questions below and leave a link to your post in the comments for others to look at. No blog? No problem! Just leave a comment with your responses.

Mailman by Stephen GrantBeasts and Beauty by Soman Chainani

MAILMAN by Stephen Grant: Look at me, finally reading something from my July TBR! I’m about 15% in and enjoying it so far. I’m looking forward to reading about the author’s experiences as a U.S. postal worker in rural Virginia (near Virginia Tech, if anyone is familiar with that area).

BEASTS AND BEAUTY by Soman Chainani: I picked this one up because I love the cover art. It’s a six-hour audiobook, so it’s not too big of a commitment. This is another book of fairytale retellings. It’s not bad. I didn’t realize it’s technically for middle grade readers, but it works for all ages. “Twelve tales, twelve dangerous tales of mystery, magic, and rebellious hearts.”

Just Finished

Blood Test by Charles Baxter

BLOOD TEST by Charles Baxter: This was a fine read. I think I liked it more than the average Goodreads rating of 3 stars. But it also wasn’t terribly memorable. It’s an easy, if somewhat absurd, read. It’s “a comic novel about a divorced Midwestern dad who takes a cutting-edge medical test and learns that he has a predisposition to murder.

THE SILENCE OF THE GIRLS by Pat Barker: I bought this for myself during the pandemic, but never got around to reading it. Then my aunt gifted me another copy for my birthday a few months ago, so I figured it was time. I don’t read historical fiction set in ancient Greece, nor do I really remember The Iliad. So I just rolled with it because what else can I do? I enjoyed this one well enough, even if it’s really about what happens to women in the spoils of war. Men will blame anyone but themselves, apparently.

Roll For Love by M.K. England

ROLL FOR LOVE by M.K. England: I decided I needed another D&D-related romance in my life, so cue this book. I’ve loved all the other ones I’ve read so far, so I hope I enjoy this one, too. Bonus points because it’s a queer D&D-related romance. “A second-chance queer romance about two teens whose in-world D&D characters fall in love, but in IRL . . . things are more complicated, perfect for lovers of Ashley Poston and Becky Albertalli.

  1. Sorry life is getting you down, I hope things get better soon. I always hear good things about Pat Barker’s books, although I haven’t read them myself. Hopefully this one works for you!

    1. Thanks, Tammy…waiting for something to go my way! T_T Pat Barker’s book was good. Not sure I’d pick it up again just because I’m not much of a historical fiction reader, but I’m glad I read it.

  2. Hope things look up soon ❤️‍🩹 Every week is see this post, say I’m going to participate, screenshot the questions…then it’s the next Wednesday 🫠

  3. I hope you feel better soon ❤️❤️ I totally understand posting less if you’re not in the right headspace for it. Hopefully you’ll find some decent reads to help with how you’re feeling. They can make wonderful distractions sometimes.

I may read the fairytale collection one day, although I really should read the authors MG series that I have on my Kindle first. I’m also intrigued by The Silence Of The Girls, but then I’m pretty obsessed with that setting. I hope you enjoy the D&D romance 🥰

    1. Thanks, Charlotte! I’m alternating between mood reads and ARCs, so that helps me not feel too bogged down with reading “obligations” while I’m feeling a little down. :-\

If you’re obsessed with ancient Greece historical fiction, I’m sure you’ll very much enjoy THE SILENCE OF THE GIRLS. I have the other two in that trilogy…not sure I’ll get to them this year, but one day!

      1. That sounds like a wise plan. Hope you feel better soon ❤️❤️

It tends to be a genre that rarely let’s me down. I hope you enjoy those ones whenever you get to them.

  4. I haven’t read any D&D romance yet, but I have a couple of them on my TBR (or more than a couple!) so I am really excited to try them!! I hope you will love this one!! 🙂
