WWW Wednesday: June 25, 2025

I didn’t write a WWW Wednesday last week because I didn’t really make a lot of progress. But I’m back again with some changes to my reading lineup!

WWW Wednesday was revived and hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words. The idea is to answer the three questions below and leave a link to your post in the comments for others to look at. No blog? No problem! Just leave a comment with your responses.

Everybody Wants to Rule the World Except Me by Django Wexler

EVERYBODY WANTS TO RULE THE WORLD EXCEPT ME by Django Wexler: I started this on Sunday and am about 40% through. Despite my lukewarm review of the first book, I’m actually enjoying myself more with this final book in the duology. I think I’d enjoy it more if I didn’t feel lowkey stressed about how behind I am with ARCs. “Dark Lord Davi rules the kingdom, but she must now break the time loop that binds her in this hilariously bloody conclusion to the Dark Lord Davi duology.

The Quiet Damage by Jesselyn CookThe Nightshade God by Hannah WhittenAre You There God? It's Me, Margaret by Judy BlumeThe Millicent Quibb School of Etiquette for Young Ladies of Mad Science by Kate McKinnon

THE QUIET DAMAGE by Jesselyn Cook: This was an excellent nonfiction read even though the topic is heavy. It just goes to show how easy it is for people to get caught up in conspiracy theories because they want to believe in something or they’re lonely and feel extremist groups are a supportive family. It’s sad, really. “The “gripping” (The Atlantic) story of five families shattered by pernicious, pervasive conspiracy theories, and how we might set ourselves free from a crisis that could haunt American life for generations.

THE NIGHTSHADE GOD by Hannah Whitten: I finished this trilogy finale last weekend after spending 12 days reading it, I think? Anyway, in case you missed it, my review is here.

ARE YOU THERE GOD? IT’S ME, MARGARET by Judy Blume: I only picked this up because it was available on Libby and I hear it gets banned in the U.S. This was my first time reading it. I thought it was fine, if a little dated (it is a 55-year-old story, after all). I guess it gets banned because the main character is trying to decide if she wants to follow a particular religion? And because it talks about her and her friends going through puberty?

THE MILLICENT QUIBB SCHOOL OF ETIQUETTE FOR YOUNG LADIES OF MAD SCIENCE by Kate McKinnon: When this popped up across my feed and I saw McKinnon is the author, I had to hop on this middle grade book. My friends, I highly recommend it. The audiobook is amazing, thanks to McKinnon. She really gives each character life and I’m so ready for the next book. “From beloved Saturday Night Live legend Kate McKinnon comes a madcap adventure about three sisters, a ravenous worm, and a mysterious mad scientist!

Tusk Love by Thea GuanzonLovely One by Ketanji Brown Jackson

TUSK LOVE by Thea Guanzon: I thought about taking a one-book break from ARCs, but remembered I have this gem I want to read. I’m looking forward to settling into this D&D-inspired romantasy. “A merchant’s daughter who yearns for adventure gets more than she bargained for when she falls for a broodingly handsome stranger in this saucy romantasy from the New York Times bestselling author of The Hurricane Wars.

LOVELY ONE by Ketanji Brown Jackson: My Libby hold finally came in for this audiobook, so this is up next otherwise back to the line I go. I don’t really know much about this SCOTUS judge, but I’m looking forward to learning more about her. “In her “vulnerable, tender, and infinitely inspirational” (Oprah Daily) memoir, the first Black woman to ever be appointed to the Supreme Court of the United States chronicles her extraordinary life story.

  1. I still need to finish Wexler’s first book. I picked it up last year but then get in a funky mood so I never continued it cos I think I have to be in a very specific mood to vibe with the humour in it? Not sure 😂 I’m glad to hear you’re enjoying the second book more though! Also can’t wait to hear your thoughts on Tusk Love—I hope you love it! Happy reading 😍

    1. I think you’re right about needing to be in a specific mood to read this Wexler duology. For what it’s worth, I feel like the humor in the second book is dialed down a notch. It’s still there, but less shocking.

  2. I can’t believe that the Judy Blume book is banned anywhere. That seems so weird.
Hope you’re not too stressed about your ARCs. I discovered last year that nothing bad happens even when you’re really late reading and reviewing a book 😀😀
I finished Nightshade God last night and think my review will have a similar vibe to yours.

    1. Yea, I think Blume has a few books that have been banned in various schools in the US. I’d never read any of her stuff, but when something gets banned, I get curious!

      1. Seems so strange. Her books were really popular with my pupils when I first started teaching 30 years ago and we wouldn’t have had them in classrooms if there had been anything dodgy about them. And this was in the days when we couldn’t do anything to do with Halloween because of the witches etc
