WWW Wednesday: November 27, 2024

I haven’t done a WWW Wednesday in a couple of weeks. So, I won’t bombard everyone with two weeks’ worth of reading. But I will focus on the past week!

WWW Wednesday was revived and hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words. The idea is to answer the three questions below and leave a link to your post in the comments for others to look at. No blog? No problem! Just leave a comment with your responses.

The West Wind by Alexandria WarwickThe Reading List by Sara Nisha Adams

THE WEST WIND by Alexandria Warwick: This is an ARC that is already out in the world. I meant to save it for my December TBR, but decided to start it now instead. I read the first book in this series of standalones back when it was self-published/independently published. But a traditional publisher picked it up and is continuing the series. At more than half way through, it’s not knocking my socks off, but it’s still an ok read. “From the author of The North Wind comes a darkly reimagined tale of forbidden love, inspired by the Greek myth of Hero and Leander and the Scottish ballad Tam Lin.

THE READING LIST by Sara Nisha Adams: I started this earlier this year, then never came back to it. I decided to read it as an audiobook since I clearly wasn’t making time to sit down and finish it. So far at ~40% in I’m enjoying it. I’m hoping for a nice heartfelt tale with human connection. “An unforgettable and heartwarming debut about how a chance encounter with a list of library books helps forge an unlikely friendship between two very different people in a London suburb.

The Scholar and the Last Faerie Door by H.G. ParryThe Truths We Hold by Kamala HarrisUnder the Menhir by Allison Wade

THE SCHOLAR AND THE LAST FAERIE DOOR by H.G. Parry: I enjoyed this book (an ARC)! It was a bit slow for my tastes, but I think I only felt that way because I feel like I have so much to read. Regardless, this has many well-developed characters. Look out for my review next month. “From the author of The Magician’s Daughter comes The Scholar and the Last Faerie Door, a mythic, magical tale full of secret scholarship, faerie curses, and the deadliest spells of all–the ones that friends cast on each other.

THE TRUTHS WE HOLD by Kamala Harris: I listened to this via audiobook. It was nice that Harris narrated it herself. I thought it was a great exposition on how she views certain issues. She seemed compassionate, intelligent, and very driven to do what is morally right. “From Vice President Kamala Harris, one of America’s most inspiring political leaders, comes a book about the core truths that unite us and how best to act upon them.

UNDER THE MENHIR by Allison Wade: This is a SFINCS novella I read in one day. It’s a contemporary fantasy that draws on Celtic mythology.

Dreams of Sorrow by Shauna LawlessThe Land of the Living and the Dead by Shauna Lawless

I still have ARCs to read, so I might focus on one of them, perhaps THE LAND OF THE LIVING AND THE DEAD. But first I need to read the novella that occurs before it.

DREAMS OF SORROW by Shauna Lawless: Part of the Gael Song series, this novella takes place between the second and third book. So I presume this has spoilers if you haven’t yet read the earlier books in this series. I believe this is only available as an e-book right now. But, if I remember correctly, the author’s and publisher’s plan is to later release all novellas in one book.

THE LAND OF THE LIVING AND THE DEAD by Shauna Lawless: This is the third installment of the Gael Song series. It came out a couple of months ago. I think the story is great, but they’re longer books, so I have to be in the mood to read them. I think an airplane is a perfect setting to motivate me. “With war on the horizon in medieval Ireland, everything is at stake for mortal and magical folk alike.

  1. I might need to read the Kamala Harris book. Also I can’t tear my eyes away from the cover of The Land of the Living and the Dead!

  2. Looks like you had a great reading week! Kamala Harris’ book sounds interesting and maybe, if ever get around to reading more non-fiction, I’d check out the audiobook so I’ll keep it on my radar 🙂 I started The Reading List earlier this year too but my mood was fickle so I put it down. Would you recommend the audio though?

    1. Yes, I think the audiobook is great! There are different POV and each one has a different narrator. I’m particularly fond of Mukesh, the elderly man who’d lost his wife a couple of years prior to the book taking place.
