WWW Wednesday is a weekly meme revived and hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words.

The idea is to answer the three questions below and leave a link to your post in the comments for others to look at. No blog? No problem! Just leave a comment with your responses.

What are you currently reading?

What have you just finished reading?

What are you going to read next?

Currently Reading: Right now I’m reading an ARC via NetGalley of Castle in their Bones by Laura Sebastian. Apparently this has been sitting in my NG queue for a little while. I didn’t realize it’s by the same author who wrote Half Sick of Shadows, which I loved. This hits bookstores on February 1. I’ll probably finish it by then, but I don’t think I’ll be able to write my review and post it on the blog by that date.

Recently Finished: The last book I finished is To Bleed A Crystal Bloom by Sarah A. Parker. It’s not the first “dark fantasy” I’ve read, but it’s certainly the darkest. I loved it. Right before that I finished Field Notes on Love by Jennifer E. Smith, which is a YA “meet cute” type romance. I wrote my reviews for both of these books, but just need to decide when to put them in the blog queue.

Reading Next: I’m either going to keep reading The Cicada Tree by Robert Gwaltney, or start The Broken Heart of Arelium by Alex Robins. The latter is for a blog tour with The Write Reads, so keep an eye out for my review next month.

Currently Reading: I decided to step out of my comfort zone and into the land of YA romance. I can’t remember the last time (or if) I read something in this genre, but I somehow stumbled across Field Notes on Love by Jennifer E. Smith. I thought the cover was cute and I thought why not give it ago? So far it’s a nice, light read and I’m enjoying the genre switch.

Recently Finished: The last book I finished reading is The Cat Who Saved Books by Sosuke Natsukawa. Before that I finished A Land of Never After by R.L. Davennor. You can read my review here. It’s a Peter Pan retelling that’s not particularly fit for a child’s bed time story. Think light fantasy horror regarding a curse where the characters must kill or be killed to survive.

Reading Next: Sometimes I can answer this one, and sometimes I can’t since I’m a mood reader. I might get a head start on a book tour book, or I might try and squeeze in another NetGalley request. If I go the NG route, I’ll read Out Front the Following Sea by Leah Angstman.

Currently Reading: I’m currently reading The Cat Who Saved Books by Sosuke Natsukawa, which I received via NetGalley. If you’re reading this you already know I’m a sucker for books. Throw in a cat and I’m in it to win it.

Recently Finished: I recently finished Daughter of the Moon Goddess by Sue Lynn Tan. I posted my review a couple of days ago. It’s a great book if you enjoy mythology retellings, or more specifically, Chinese mythology retellings; quests; love; betrayal; and a strong female protagonist. The last book I finished reading, though, is The Land of Never After by R.L. Davennor. This is another NetGalley read and, in a nutshell, it’s a dark retelling of Peter Pan. I haven’t written my review yet, but it’s on my docket to do so.

Reading Next: I’m not quite sure what I’ll read next. I’ve made great progress already on my NetGalley approvals. I’m currently on my third backlogged NG approval this month. I can’t decide if I want to continue this NG trend, or take a break and read Culture Warlords (nonfiction) by Talia Lavin or Field Notes on Love (romance) by Jennifer Smith.

What are you going to read next?

Currently Reading: I’m currently reading Skin of the Sea by Natasha Bowen. As I mentioned last week, it took a while for my library to receive their copies before they could lend them out. I’ve put a hold on reading The Cicada Tree by Robert Gwaltney because there are books with earlier publish dates sitting in my NetGalley “Give Feedback” section.

Recently Finished: I finally finished Prophecy of Love by T. Satterfield, which I received from NetGalley. You can read my review here.

Reading Next: Next I think I’ll read Daughter of the Moon Goddess by Sue Lynn Tan. Its publish date is January 11, so I’d at least like to have my NetGalley copy read by then. Ideally I’d have my review written as well, but let’s not get ahead of myself.

What are you currently reading?

What have you just finished reading?

What are you going to read next?

I feel like I haven’t made much progress. A lot of what you’ll see below are books I’ve already mentioned in previous book memes of late.

Currently Reading: I’m currently still reading the Prophecy of Love by T. Satterfield and The Cicada Tree by Robert Gwaltney. Both of these are from NetGalley. I’ve shifted my focus more to the Prophecy of Love because it was actually published a little while ago and I should be a good book blogger and actually finish it!

Recently Finished: I’m excited to say that I finally finished reading Half Sick of Shadows by Laura Sebastian. I absolutely loved it! I dare say it’s even my favorite read of 2021. There’s a 99% chance that any sort of review I write won’t do it justice, but I’ll try!

Reading Next: After waiting for well over a month, Skin of the Sea by Natasha Bowen finally came into the library for me. I’m not sure what was going on behind the scenes, but it took over a month from the publication date for my library to change the status from “On Order” to available for pick up. Usually my county is pretty quick with getting new releases out to readers. This is purely speculation, but I wonder if the supply chain issues had some part in the delay. Oh well, it’s here now! I’ll pick it up by the end of this week.
