Spooktastic Reads: Monsters and Beasts

The prompt today for Spooktastic Reads, a Wyrd and Wonder mini event, is “monsters and beasts.” I’m always amazed at authors’ imaginations and the fauna they create. In celebration of this creativity, here’s a list of books that have some interesting and sometimes bone-chilling monsters and beasts.

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

Given this series brought me back to the world of reading, I have to include it here. There is a slew of unique monsters in these books. I promise no spoilers, but the Suriel, the Bone Carver, Bryaxis, and the Weaver are some of my favorites. If you know, you know.

Sabriel Read-a-Long Part Three

Jordyn @ Birdie’s Book Nook is leading a read-a-long of SABRIEL, the first book in the Old Kingdom series. Having never read it myself, I decided to join as I thought it’d be a good way to finally read it. This is the third and final week, which means I finished the book. If you haven’t yet reached the end, beware of spoilers. Here are my responses for this week’s discussion questions (which are kind of stream of consciousness and not as polished as I’d like, but so it is!). Sabriel Read-a-Long Part Two

Jordyn @ Birdie’s Book Nook is leading a read-a-long of SABRIEL, the first book in the Old Kingdom series. Having never read it myself, I decided to join as I thought it’d be a good way to finally read it. We’re now at the end of the second reading assignment for which Jordyn posted some discussion questions. If you missed the first week, you can find my discussion post here.

Now, onto the next set of Q&A, plus some additional thoughts.

September 2022 TBR List

As I said last month in my August TBR post, I almost always stay away from making a TBR list. However, I followed my August one pretty well, so I thought I’d try it again. Sabriel Read-a-Long Part One

Jordyn @ Birdie’s Book Nook decided to start a read-a-long of SABRIEL, the first book in the Old Kingdom series because it’s one of her favorite books. Having never read it myself, I decided to join as I thought it’d be a good way to finally read it. I mean, it’s only been floating around for over 20 years, so better late than never! Since the read-a-long discussion occurs in the blogosphere (or wherever you discuss bookish things), no specific time commitment is required. It looks like Jordyn will post a set of discussion questions each week, the first of which is here.

As I’m on vacation, I don’t have a ton of time to sit down and answer each question, so I picked one to focus on.
