My December 2025 TBR is purely all hopeful reads. The holiday season is busy and I don’t want to pressure myself to a bunch of ARC commitments (even though I’m behind). Most of the books on my December 2025 TBR are books I’ve owned for a while. So if I get to them it’ll be nice to cross off even more from my unread physical book pile. Anyway, these are all fantasy books except for one historical fiction.

For my November 2025 TBR I want to focus on books that are cozy or cozy adjacent. I had a great reading month in October going off script from my normal fantasy reads. So I thought I’d more or less continue in that vein. These are mostly fantasy, but lighter fantasy, which is something I don’t read too often. I also have a goal this month to lighten my mental load and a cozy TBR is part of that. That includes not worrying about ARCs unless the mood strikes me.

I did a pretty good job with my September TBR, with just two books that I didn’t get to. I have some travel this month, so plane rides always mean a nice chunk of time to do some reading. Because I’ll be pretty busy, my October 2025 TBR is more a list of hopefuls. I’m not really going to prioritize anything this month and instead go with the flow and my mood. So, here are my October 2025 TBR picks in no particular order.
THE ASSASSIN’S BLADE by Sarah J. Maas: This is up next for me in my Throne of Glass series reading journey. I’m more than halfway through at this point.
THE FAIRY BARGAINS OF PROSPECT HILL by Rowenna Miller: This is a physical ARC I’ve had for two years now. I plan on starting this next, though I opted for the finished e-book version on Libby. I’ve seen mixed feelings about it, but hopefully I enjoy it. “In the early 1900s, two sisters must navigate the magic and the dangers of the Fae in this enchanting and cozy historical fantasy about sisterhood and self-discovery.“
THE THORNS REMAIN by J.J.A. Harwood: In an effort to make more progress on my physical TBR, I’m throwing this one in. The synopsis and the dancers on the cover drew me in. I’m a bit sad to see the middling star score on Goodreads, but nothing I can do about it except form my own opinion! “a tour-de-force of faerie bargains, perfect for fans of THE INVISIBLE LIFE OF ADDIE LA RUE, MEXICAN GOTHIC, and TEN THOUSAND DOORS OF JANUARY. A dance with the fae will change everything.” It seems I have a penchant for early 20th century fae stories this month!
SIX WILD CROWNS by Holly Race: As I mentioned in my August 2025 TBR, this is an ARC from June. It’s on my TBR this month because it’s a standalone and I have a digital copy of it. The latter reason makes it a good option for the plane. It’s “a breathtaking epic fantasy of dragons, courtly intrigue, sapphic yearning, and the wives of Henry VIII as you’ve never seen them before.“
HOW HIGH WE GO IN THE DARK by Sequoia Namagatsu: I have a weird soft spot for eco-horror fiction (particularly plagues/pandemics) and I’d forgotten I had this on my Kindle! This might be high on my list this month. “”For fans of Cloud Atlas and Station Eleven, a spellbinding and profoundly prescient debut that follows a cast of intricately linked characters over hundreds of years as humanity struggles to rebuild itself in the aftermath of a climate plague—a daring and deeply heartfelt work of mind-bending imagination from a singular new voice.“
THE VEGETARIAN by Han Kang: This is different from my usual reads. I threw this in here because I’m already ~40% through the audiobook. I’m not sure if it’s horror or some sort of psychological thriller. But it’s about this woman who has a dream and decides to be a vegetarian. Meanwhile her family is trying to force her to eat meat. I’m at a point now where she seems to be having some psychological issues. But it’s unclear because the reader doesn’t hear from her POV very often.

August came and went and I wouldn’t say I did a fantastic job with my August 2025 TBR. I read one ARC and one “hopeful read” on my list. Instead of reaching for another of the ARCs there, I swapped one out for an ARC of poetry. That’s just how it goes sometimes. Anyway, September is a new month, which means I have my September 2025 TBR ready to go.

I did okay on last month’s TBR. But because of my mental funk I only got through half of the ARCs I wanted to read. So I plopped the rest right into my August 2025 TBR. These days I tend to alternate between ARC and mood read so that reading “obligations” don’t feel like a chore. I’m super thankful to receive ARCs, but I always have to remember that I have books to read that I bought, too!
