Before I jump into Sundays In Bed With…, I have a quick update to say I’m on the mend from my planned, short procedure. I’ve never had any sort of surgery before, so it’s wild to now know how quickly the anesthesia knocks you out! I still am not 100% myself physically and won’t be for around another one to two weeks. But yesterday I finally started to feel like I was more on the mend after being prodded last Wednesday. So, that’s why I haven’t had much of a present on social media or the blogosphere lately. I’ve been lurking, but hadn’t much felt like interacting. I’m back, more or less! But please excuse me if I continue to have a delay in responding to or returning comments or emails. 🙂
Anyway, on to the Sundays in Bed With… meme. It’s hosted by Midnight Book Girl, dares to ask what book has been in your bed this morning. Come share what book you’ve spent time curled up reading in bed, or which book you wish you had time to read today!
How to Become the Dark Lord and Die Trying by Django Wexler
I started this last week as a buddy read with Chris and am finally over the 50% mark. Apparently there are mixed reactions for this one. It has a lot of sarcasm and dry humor and pop/contemporary culture references, the latter of which can throw some people off when reading fantasy. So far I don’t mind that package. And overall I like it. But I do wish the plot would pick up a bit. There’s a lot of bouncing around from place to place in order to pick up followers to become the Dark Lord. So it’s definitely heavy on the journey trope and rather simple on the plot. I hope the ending is good since that will determine whether I read the sequel.

Groundhog Day meets Deadpool in Django Wexler’s raunchy, hilarious, blood-splattered fantasy tale about a young woman who, tired of defending humanity from the Dark Lord, decides to become the Dark Lord herself.
“Takes the old saying ‘If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em, ‘ to the next level. A sarcastic, action-packed, intrigue-filled (mis)adventure. One of the funniest books I’ve read in a long time.”–Matt Dinniman, author of Dungeon Crawler Carl
Davi has done this all before. She’s tried to be the hero and take down the all-powerful Dark Lord. A hundred times she’s rallied humanity and made the final charge. But the time loop always gets her in the end. Sometimes she’s killed quickly. Sometimes it takes a while. But she’s been defeated every time.
This time? She’s done being the hero and done being stuck in this endless time loop. If the Dark Lord always wins, then maybe that’s who she needs to be. It’s Davi’s turn to play on the winning side.
A humorous western isekai featuring the reincarnation of an antihero female lead.
I’m glad your procedure went well. Anesthesia is freaky! I had eye surgery a few years ago and I do not remember how I got home. Curious to hear your final thoughts on Dark Lord????
Really glad that you’re on the mend after your procedure. It’s amazing how anaesthetic can make you feel wiped out for days afterwards. Hope that you feel back to normal again soon.
Glad you’re on the mend from your surgery! Hopefully Dark Lord can keep your mind off of things. 🙂
I hope your recovery continues to go well! I’ve been interested in this book and your description makes me want to read it even more.
Hope the recovery is swift and full
Glad to hear your procedure went well, and hope recovery continues to go well also!
I have seen this book around. Look like a good book to read.
Hope the recovery goes well for you.
