April 2024 TBR List

Another month, another TBR! I did pretty well with my March one and read all but two books. For my April 2024 TBR List I plan to focus almost exclusively on ARCs. While I, of course, want to read from my own pile, the following month is quite busy for me. Sure, I can read whatever I want whenever. But I know myself and if I don’t get started on what I can, then I’ll stress myself out.

So, come check out what’s on my April 2024 TBR List. Let me know if any of these are on yours as well!

Priority Reads

The Hemlock Queen by Hannah WhittenWhat Monstrous Gods by Rosamund HodgeImmortal Pleasures by V. CastroEvocation by S.T. Gibson

THE HEMLOCK QUEEN by Hannah Whitten: Hopefully by the time this post goes live I will have started this ARC. This one comes out in early April. As I mentioned last month, I love the magic system in this series and look forward to diving back in.

WHAT MONSTROUS GODS by Rosamund Hodge: This is a new release that I included in my anticipated first quarter book releases for this year. I went from number five in the holds list to up front very quickly. Since there’s a holds list I have to read it or put myself back on the list.

IMMORTAL PLEASURES by V. Castro: This is an ARC about vampires and it looks quite sensual. I guess I’ll just have to find out! I don’t read many vampire books for no particular reason, so this will be a nice change. “An ancient Aztec vampire roams the modern world in search of vengeance and love in this seductive dark fantasy from the author of The Haunting of Alejandra.”

EVOCATION by S.T. Gibson: Although this book comes out in late May, that time is super busy for me. So I want to get a jump start so I can definitely have my review out before then. This is an urban, occult fantasy with an LGBTQ cast set in Boston.

Hopeful Reads

The Fireborne Blade by Charlotte BondLore of the Wilds by Analeigh SbranaDreadful by Caitlin RozakisThe City of Stardust by Georgia SummersHim by Geoff Ryan

THE FIREBORNE BLADE by Charlotte Bond: Check out that cover! I love it! It’s also great that this is more or less novella length or a short novel, however you want to look at it. I have an ARC of this, which publishes at the end of May. “Kill the dragon. Find the blade. Reclaim her honor. It’s that, or end up like countless knights before her, as a puddle of gore and molten armor.

DREADFUL by Caitlin Rozakis: This is another ARC. The premise of this looks so fun and unique compared to a lot of what I typically read. I’m really looking forward to this one. “A sharp-witted, debut high fantasy farce featuring killer moat squid, toxic masculinity, evil wizards and a garlic festival – all at once.

LORE OF THE WILDS by Analeigh Sbrana: I was approved for this ARC on NetGalley after it was published. And it also looks like I’ll receive it in a book sub. All that aside, while I avoid reviews until I read the book, there seems to be mixed ratings for this one. However, the synopsis has a lot of elements I love in a fae fantasy, so I hope I enjoy it! “A stunning Romantasy debut about an enchanted library, two handsome Fae, and one human who brings them all together.

THE CITY OF STARDUST by Georgia Summers: Again, this was a January 2024 release that I have yet to read of which I have an ARC. “Slip into a lush world of magic, stardust, and monsters in this spellbinding contemporary fantasy from debut author Georgia Summers.”

HIM by Geoff RymanYes, yes, this is on my list again. And I will keep including it until I read it. It’s “An extraordinary science-fiction novel about identity, divinity and alternate reality – the story of the son of God.”

  1. I loved The Hemlock Queen and hope that you do as well. Him certainly sounds intriguing. Good Luck with reading all of these

  2. I will be reading Evocation as well, but probably not till next month. If you read it first I’ll have a good idea of what to expect going in! Enjoy your books????

    1. I think I’m going to bump up Evocation to this month. I’ll read IMMORTAL PLEASURES first, and then EVOCATION. Since I received one of the fancy ARCs, I’ll feel bad if I don’t review it before the publication date!

  3. I just started The Hemlock Queen, and I’m enjoying it so far. I’m interested to see what you think of Lore of the Wilds and The City of Stardust. Both had things I enjoyed but didn’t quite work for me in the end. I’m very excited about Evocation and Dreadful. I’ve pre-ordered both. So, I won’t be getting to them this month, but I’ll be reading them as soon as they get released. 🙂

    1. Oh good! I just finished THE HEMLOCK QUEEN last night and definitely enjoyed it. Hopefully you still are, too! I’m thinking I’ll push LORE OF THE WILDS and THE CITY OF STARDUST a little farther down my list. First I plan to read IMMORTAL PLEASURES, then EVOCATION. I’m looking forward to LORE OF THE WILDS, though, simply because the whole synopsis is my cup of tea. I look forward to comparing notes with you!

  4. All of these look amazing! I’m particularly intrigued by that cover of Immortal Pleasures. I don’t know if I shoud be terrified or captivated, haha ???? Keen to read your review of that one. I hope you enjoy all your reads this month!

    1. I know…I’m not entirely sure what to expect out of IMMORTAL PLEASURES, but the cover is certainly an attention-capturing one! That’s the next ARC I’ll read. No way I can finish it before its pub date on Monday, but I’ll get it done eventually.

  5. I hope you manage to get all of these read. I still need to read The Foxglove King but it’s one of the books I hope to pick up soon. I looked at Lore Of The Wilds in store last week and its opening seemed pretty intriguing so fingers crossed that it delivers for you. And I’m planning to order City Of Stardust into the library once I’ve got through a couple of my own books.

I hope you enjoy the books mentioned here and find some new favourites.

    1. Thanks, Charlotte, me too! It’s a big list, but I’ll do my best. Sounds like we have some similar interest in our near-term TBR. I hope you enjoy those books when you get to them! 🙂
