I’ve never done a Halloween book tag before. (I mean, my blog has only been around for 1.5 years, so big surprise!) However, I saw this one on Books are 42‘s blog and it looked like fun. It seems like this tag was created by CatFairyBooks, but it looks like their blog no longer exists.
If you’re interested in this tag, feel free to tag yourself! Allons-y!
What are your favourite Halloween movies?
This is very “basic” and I don’t really care that it is, but I love Hocus Pocus and The Nightmare Before Christmas. Most years I at least get in a re-watch of the former, but I haven’t re-watched the latter in a little while. When I was younger I enjoyed watching a Disney channel movie classic, Halloweentown.
What is your favourite Halloween book?
Now that I think about it, I haven’t really read that many books recently that would fall into this category. So I don’t have a favorite. So I’ll just say my most recent Halloween vibes read: A DUEL WITH THE VAMPIRE LORD by Elise Kova.
What other Halloween books would you recommend?
THE SILVER KISS by Annette Curtis Klause, which I think was my first foray into paranormal fantasy fiction as a young adult. Also, QUEEN OF THE DAMNED by Anne Rice; I remember thinking this was my favorite out of the first three I read. I also remember reading the Daughters of the Moon series by Lynne Ewing as a young adult. I think these books would be perfect for Halloween, too. At this point I can’t vouch for how well they’re written since I read them more than half a life time ago. (Oh, that is weird to type out.)
Do you own any Halloween ugly sweaters?
Nope, I do not. I didn’t know ugly Halloween sweaters are a thing now? I do have a couple of Halloween-ish shirts, both of which are Hocus Pocus related. I have resisted the urge to buy a classic, cute pumpkin shirt.
What are some of your favourite Halloween costumes?
With respect to my own Halloween costumes, one of my favorites was the year I dressed up as Princess Leia from Star Wars, cinnamon roll buns and all. To this day I still have hair long enough to do that. I think I was in middle school; I don’t know, what is time? I also enjoyed dressing up as Hermione Granger from Harry Potter. And, when I was a college senior, I dressed up as Daphne from Scooby Doo.
What are you doing for Halloween this year?
Honestly, nothing fun. I’m sick right now, so there’s a high chance we’ll just have to leave the candy bowl outside for the kids this year. Before we went on our international vacation I put up the Halloween lights. So at least those look cool!
What is your favourite childhood Halloween memory?
I think my childhood Halloween memories are pretty par for the course relative to others who trick-or-treated. I went out with my whole family. There weren’t a lot of kids on my street, so I didn’t often trick-or-treat with neighborhood kids; but we did most of our candy hunting on streets that did have a lot of kids. I remember thinking a few of the decorations were scary. And I remember it was cold more often than not; I feel like these days Halloween is warmer.
Happy Halloween, everyone!
Happy Halloween! I had forgotten about Halloweentown, but I used to watch it every year as a kid on the Disney Channel at my grandma’s house. I need to check and see if Disney+ has it. It would be fun to re-visit.
Haha yesssss! Last Halloween (or, I think it was? time is elusive these days) I introduced my husband to all of them. So yes, they’re all definitely on Disney+. I even found out there’s a third one where Marnie goes to college, but the original actress was replaced. Have fun revisiting them!
This is such a fun tag!
I don’t know if I generally watch a lot of Halloween movies, but I do try to watch It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown every year!
My colleagues with younger kids mention around this time of year catching the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown on TV…I haven’t seen that one in a *very* long time, but Charlie Brown is always fun to watch!
