I missed last WWW Wednesday because I was at a work conference in Denver last week. (I saw Jeff Goldblum in the Denver airport, though! Turns out he had a concert there. Yes, he’s also a musician.) So this week is a recap of my last two weeks of reading.
WWW Wednesday was revived and hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words. The idea is to answer the three questions below and leave a link to your post in the comments for others to look at. No blog? No problem! Just leave a comment with your responses.

TAKE MY WORD FOR IT by LeVar Burton: I started this ARC on my flight back from Denver and I’m about one third of the way through. However, I’m about to put it on pause so I can finally read KINGDOM OF ASH. But what I have read so far of Burton’s memoir I’ve liked. It’s even inspired me to put a library hold on the Roots DVD, which Burton starred in when he was in college.
BEFORE THE COFFEE GETS COLD by Toshikazu Kawaguchi: I finally decided to see what all the hype is about and, at 25% in, I don’t get it. By now I know that books translated from Japanese don’t usually work well for me, so I opt to borrow them from the library instead of purchasing them. I think things are just lost in translation. The FMC just seems so selfish and if there’s not some character growth then this probably won’t be very enjoyable for me.
Just Finished

MINOR DETAIL by Adania Shibli: I finished this audiobook 1.5 weeks ago. I picked it up because I thought it was nonfiction, but I think it’s actually classified as fiction? What I really need to do is look up this book and figure out what I read. Because I’m not sure if the girl in the beginning actually existed or not. But the present-day narrator in the second have of the novella is, I think, a fictional character. The TLDR is this wasn’t what I thought it would be.
LEVEL UP FOR LOVE by Lenora Woods: I finally got around to reading this ARC! It was published last month. This is probably my favorite of the contemporary romances I’ve read that incorporates D&D. For my thoughts on it, check out my review.
AS OLD AS THYME by Alix Nicoud: This is a trans-for-trans, early medieval historical romance novella. I found out about this book on bookstagram late last year. It’s a fairly low stakes, slice-of-life story. My full review will be up on Monday.
WHAT I LEARNED FROM THE TREES by L.E. Bowman: This is the second book of poetry I read by this author, who I found on Instagram. I’m not a big poetry person, but a lot of the poems she posts on her account tend to resonate with me. While her first book was about first relationships, standing up for yourself, and feminism, this one is more about understanding who you are with some focus on relationships. Still, though, as with the first book of hers, most weren’t incredibly relatable to me, though I did bookmark a few that I really liked. I have her third book of poetry, too, and I hope the maturation trend continues; maybe there’ll be even more poems in there that I can relate to. Poetry is so subjective, though, and I think enjoyment relies heavily on how you as the reader connect with the poems.
THE WITCH’S HEART by Genevieve Gornichec: I bought this book years ago when I was a newbie book blogger. Finally, I’ve read it! Only I read it via audiobook, lol. It was a decent story, but slower than I preferred. I had the audiobook up to 2.10x just to get through it because I felt like a snail. It’s a retelling of Loki and Angrboda and the Ragnorak. Perhaps it wouldn’t have felt so slow if I’d already known the original myth. What also annoyed me a little bit is this book is labeled as LGBTQ+ on The Storygraph, but that element doesn’t happen until maybe the last quarter of the book and even so it’s barely there. I don’t know…I guess in my mind for a book to have that label I’d expect LGBTQ+ to be a main component.

It is time. Here I come, KINGDOM OF ASH! (No spoilers, please!) I doubt I’ll finish this thick book in a week, but I can try. And if I don’t, that’s okay because I refuse to be pressured by social media into reading ACOTAR7 right away. If you are one of those people who plans to inhale ACOTAR7 right away, good for you, but don’t be a tool and post spoilers after the fact.
