Book Blogger Hop: June 9-15

The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer @ Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer’s permission, Coffee Addicted Writer relaunched the hop on February 15, 2013. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to your own blog.

This Week’s Question

Do you still enjoy reading children’s books? (Billy @ Coffee Addicted Writer)

My answer to this is it depends on the age range of children’s books. I’ve read three (?) children’s books this year meant for the wide age range of elementary schoolers. The two that fell on the younger side were just ok for me. I loved the illustrations, but the ending for both felt quite abrupt. So I’m not sure if those two books happened to have abrupt endings, or if books for younger kids are meant to end that way. So while I like the illustrations, I haven’t been as thrilled with the storytelling itself, even with my expectations adjusted.

Over the past year I’ve read a couple of books that fall between late elementary and middle school age range. I enjoyed those a lot more, which probably isn’t a big surprise since I’m not a wee kid. While I don’t typically reach for books meant for 8-12-year-old kids, I don’t mind reading one here and there.

  1. Interestingly enough, this year I’ve been reading way more MG books than I have since I was actually in that age range haha! I’ve been pleasantly surprised with how many cute and creative books there are in that category now – especially in the fantasy genre. Some of my faves of the year have even fallen there, like The Tea Dragon Society graphic novels!

    1. Whenever I go into my local indie bookstore I’m always impressed with the amount of books that pique even my interest. There seems to be lots of good stuff out there for all age groups, which is awesome. I haven’t heard of those graphic novels, but if I want to hop into some MG reads, I’ll keep those in mind, thanks!
