Book Blogger Hop: July 1-7

The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer @ Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer’s permission, Coffee Addicted Writer relaunched the hop on February 15, 2013. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to your own blog.

This Week’s Question

What is your favorite movie adapted from a book? (Cheryl @ I Heart Fictional People)

This is a slightly tough question for me this week because, at least lately, I haven’t watched many (any?) movies adapted from a book. I have to put on my “way back machine” hat for this one.

The movies that immediately came to mind are Anne of Green Gables and Anne of Avonlea. I watched those movies countless times when I was younger. I didn’t read the books until much later, maybe when I was in high school. And while I enjoyed the books, I felt like the movies really portrayed the essence and soul of them. However, I’m probably a little biased since I saw the movies prior to reading the books and not the other way around.

Books I read prior to the movies (many, many, many years ago), that I can recall easily, include the Harry Potter series, The Hobbit, The Princess Diaries, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Memoirs of a Geisha, The Da Vinci Code, and Girl With a Pearl Earring. I’m 99% sure I’m likely missing more. But because I can’t get my act together with this question, I have to go with the Harry Potter movies.

At the time I remember being frustrated with some of the decisions made for the movies, but now I don’t mind them. Overall, I think the directors did a great job adapting the books to the big screen. Sure, I would have loved to see more details in the movies. But to include all of that would have made them incredibly long. So I understand the reason for cutting down the events.

Since my memory is pretty faulty here for this prompt, let me know your favorite movie adaptations in the comments. I wish I could think of something more recent than the books I listed above!

  1. I loved The Hobbit movie although the book wasn’t my favourite. I loved Stephen King’s The Green Mile and Shawshank Redemption but I haven’t read the books for either, too. I remember loving The Princess Diaries movies and the books too but its been ages since I read those! Great post 🙂

    1. I just felt like The Hobbit movies were way too long. *hides* I haven’t seen either of those King movies, but I’m pretty sure I’ve seen all of the It iterations and would love to read the book someday because I didn’t find the tv shows to be that scary. ^_^

Yea, I remember loving The Princess Diaries a lot as a teen/tween, too…and I also remember feeling a little embarrassed to read Angus, Thongs, and Full-Frontal Snogging, if you’ve heard of that one?
