Before I jump into WWW Wednesday, I just want to make everyone aware that today is the last day for free shipping on Bookshop.org. They’re offering free shipping to combat Amazon Prime Day (or week or however long this event lasts). Or, in Bookshop.org’s words, “Support bookstores, not billionaires” on this blessed Anti-Prime Day. I wholeheartedly agree with that message. If you can afford to, ditch Amazon and put your money where your mouth is.
WWW Wednesday was revived and hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words. The idea is to answer the three questions below and leave a link to your post in the comments for others to look at. No blog? No problem! Just leave a comment with your responses.

I have been so distracted and frustrated and irritated that it’s honestly been difficult for me to sit down and read. Honestly, I should be reading KINGDOM OF ASH right now, but I just can’t make myself start it with all the personal shenanigans going on in the background. So I’m still slowly working on my cephalopod nonfiction read. And in the meantime I picked up an ARC that is a bit of a lighter read. (Although, my audiobook is not a light read. I’m all over the place right now.)
MONARCHS OF THE SEA by Danna Staaf: I made some progress on this book since last week. I have about 60 pages of text left to read, not including the references section.
LEVEL UP FOR LOVE by Lenora Woods: This is the second D&D contemporary romance I’m reading by this author. (The first books is called ROLL FOR ROMANCE.) It’s an ARC and came out a month ago in the U.S. So far I’m enjoying it. I read the first 25% in one sitting, if that tells you anything. The D&D campaign is pretty interesting, too. “Sparks fly as two former college rivals are forced together for a new D&D campaign—clashing both in and out of the game—in this fusion of contemporary second-chance romance and fantasy from the author of Roll for Romance.“
MINOR DETAIL by Adania Shibli: This is my current audiobook. It’s not a light read, but it was “available now” in my tagged books on Libby and it’s short, so I decided to try it. I’m 40% in and am probably close to some bad stuff happening. 🙁 “Minor Detail begins during the summer of 1949, one year after the war that the Palestinians mourn as the Nakba–the catastrophe that led to the displacement and exile of some 700,000 people–and the Israelis celebrate as the War of Independence.”
Just Finished

THE WOMEN OF TROY by Pat Barker: I don’t really read a lot of ancient Greek fiction, but I think Barker’s books are pretty good. They’re not an “on the edge of your seat” kind of read, but they offer a female perspective rather than continuing on from the POV of the men.
THE HALLOWEEN TREE by Ray Bradbury: I’ve been wanting to read this ever since I saw it on H.C.’s blog, The Irresponsible Reader some time ago. (At least, I’m pretty sure I learned about it from his blog.) Anyway, it’s a short novel in which a group of boys are whisked away on Halloween to find their missing friend. In doing so, they travel through time and space and learn about the origin of Halloween by visiting different countries. The audiobook I read happened to have a full cast, which made it feel like I was listening to an intense radio show in the 1940s. I definitely recommend it! While I don’t read a lot of classics, I seem to (so far) get along with Bradbury’s and Steinbeck’s works pretty ok.

I sound like a broken record at this point, but KINGDOM OF ASH has the potential to be my next eyeball read. However, I have a bit of travel coming up and I’m not taking that huge chonk of a book on the plane with me. So I might dig up my ebook copy that has all of the books in it. THE WITCH’S HEART by Genevieve Gornichec will be my next audiobook. I already checked it out on Libby.
